Is this a good deal for a swap?

I'd use the nag1 as well, Holley has the parts to make it fit and there are controllers for it.

3spd behind it for a race car (as I plan for my Coronet) makes sense, but I wouldn't for a street car, you loose the efficiency aspects.

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get some advice. I have a 1972 with a mild 340. 340 has a 268 Lunatic cam, x heads, and summit headers. Runs great. A guy near me is offering a 2006 5.7 Hemi and trans for 1200.

This is a complete power train motor, trans, torc converter, PCM/ECM and wiring harness, with electronic gas pedal and receiver. It is currently set up in a Milodon oil pan with a custom oil pick up set to go direct into a B-Body Mopar. It also comes with the motor mounts to bolt direct to the K member of any B Body(unsure of 72 fitment) and an oil filter replicator kit.

Any opinions on the deal? I understand I may spend an additional 3-5k to swap myself and I plan to use my 727 trans.

Hey mate,

I'm by no means a mechanic but am a Mopar owner of 21 years. My 440 cranks out just shy of 460 horse into headers and dumps down two 3 inch pipes. Nothing I've ever experienced pumps me up like cranking that beast, listening to, and feeling the rumble; pure adrenaline buzz. The efficiency of a modern Hemi and trans is undeniable but the whole point of my Mopar is just that; classic American muscle.

My advice, Go for it. I drove from Salt Lake City to the Bonneville Salt Flats in a 70 challenger with a 6.4 Gen3, about 100 miles. 85 mph with the a/c on, you look good and run fast! If youre going to use the small 727 then there is pretty much nothing you cant undo if you decide to go back to the 340. I am currently putting a Gen3 in my 71 b body with a tremec. It is challenging and yes, it costs a bit more than building a "normal" engine but the power, convienience and reliability outweigh the sound of a lumpy cam.

Personally I would just improve the 340 a little at a time, that hemi setup will get expensive very quickly, and it's 15 years old,its probably going to need gone thru very thoroughly, nice car, keep making it nicer,my opinion is keep it old school, no computers to fry,and as much as I liked my 2014 charger r/t, the electronic gas pedals just are not the same, even with a pedal commander signal booster, there's nothing like, drive by cable!...lol.

I have a 5.7 AND the Nag1 . It sounds great, particularly when I close the cutouts!!!! The performance is trouble free. My only reservation about your "deal" is how many miles there are on that engine. What even got me to start thinking about such a swap...way back in '07....was that I was driving an
06 Charger with a 5.7 and I had a '69 Dart with a stock 340/727. I realized the 340 would give the Charger a run for its money in the first 1/8th maybe and I wondered how bad *** that 5.7 from the Charger would be in a GTX. The result was/is spectacular! If you do this, do NOT stay with the 727. Soundgermanautomotive.com even has an aftermarket controller for the 8speed now, THAT would really be awesome in my GTX! You would even have slap shift so you could drive manual shift if you want. It is fun once in a while.

Holley has all the parts to do the job in the process of finishing my 1967 Holley terminator max and sound German trans controller.

Sounds like a fair deal if all is well with the engine. As a general FYI, the 2009 and up hemi engines had a revised cylinder head that flows better and will make significantly more power. I learned a lot from the video I put in the youtube link below. Check it out.

Guarantee the sc is a lot cheaper than a Hellcat!

You would still need a controller for a Hellcat. I haven’t seen a used Hellcat for less than 15k.

You can buy them all day long for $9-10k, fully dressed engine. Then you need a controller.
5.7 you have to debate how hard to push it before pulling down for ring gap, HC you don't.
I keep having this debate with myself for my Coronet. Started building a 5.7 single turbo setup but HC comes down in price

There’s one ebay right now for 10k. Then they go up from there. Why not just by a crate Hellaphant? Don’t they come with a harness and controller?

Your not buying a fully dressed hell cat engine for 9-10. No way. I’ve been hunting. 17-23k. All day. Normal
6.4 yes 9-10. Your not buying at supercharged hemi for 9.

How can anyone tell what it''s worth without knowing mileage and condition? It's approaching 20 years old. If it's worn out, you'd be better off time and cost-wise finding something with low mileage for more money. $1200 makes me suspicious. Look deeper before pulling out your wallet.
