Anyone else have parts missing in boxes or order the same parts that don't match each other from Rockauto? Seems like half the time i'm having to get replacment parts because the boxes have been opened and pieces like nuts, cotter pins, etc are missing.

Latest issue is with a set of rear brake drums for my 69 Satellite. The part numbers are correct but the finish is different on each drum. Also the castings are different with some of the faces more rounded than flat like the other. And one has casting numbers on it while the other doesn't. They seem to fit but it kind of bothers me they don't match. Should i ask for replacements or just live with it? They also happened to be the most expensive ones offered.

I order a lot from rock. I can say I have never had any issues with one exception. I wanted a blower motor for my 72 charger but the one listed and I bought was apparently for a modern charger. I returned it with no problems. I ended up buying one from them for a coronet as I recall. Fit perfect.

I've had some issues like that in the past.
Worst one I remember was I ordered a case of oil filters that were supposed to be Denso and they were Carquest branded.

No issues here with RA. You could have run into the same problem at the parts store. Difference there is, you’re at the parts store and not days waiting on mail order. Aftermarket non-OEM parts will run that risk. They fit, just might not be identical.

If you notice that parts you order from the Rock come from parts dealers from all over the country. We are looking for parts that are in most cases not available locally. I've tried a local parts store and they can't get it because its no longer made. The Rock has a dealer in little town oshkosh and they happened to have one, but somebody may have bought it and didn't fit so a return to the parts store. I'm so grateful to score some old parts, although new, to complete a job. One thing I've noticed of late, they now tell you when parts come from the same dealer so as to decrease shipping costs.

I’m at the point i order almost everything from rock auto. Prices are great! I’m about to order calipers rotors and pads for my truck. It’ll be near 1/2 price of the store.

As @tonysrt said, RA is a "drop shipper" - a broker of sorts for parts.
They've got an extensive network of suppliers for the parts they sell - but those parts
aren't sitting in some RA warehouse, under their own roof.
Drop shippers never lay hands on the items they sell - they only arrange for the sale
and subsequent delivery of them.

Years ago I had some issues with Rock Auto and quit using them. However for the last few years they have been ok. As mentioned previously their orders are drop shipped from all over. When I have had a problem of late, they return process has been good (pre-paid shipping labels). Of particular interest to Canadian customers, Rock Auto seems to have their act together for Canadian orders and shipping, especially when we can't hop across the border right now. You pay the HST right on your order and the package comes FedEx without any additional charges. FedEx is even using air freight, to my location anyway, all the packages have come through the Windsor, Ontario airport. Sometimes even received the next day. I don't mind paying the tax owed in Canada, but the brokerage charges from some shippers is criminal, and usually done incorrectly. So whatever Rock Auto has worked out with FedEx is great. To bad more vendors wouldn't step up as well.
