Looking for a kickdown rod for a 68 RR with a 383/727. Part #10 in the pic.

This is the one I have that does not work. The bends are incorrect and it hits on the exhaust manifold not to mention the one shown in the FSM has a clevis on the end. The length on the one in the pic looks to be the correct length though.

That looks like a small block piece you have. A big block will have the top half straight. And the bottom is attached by the clip in my pic, not a clevis. The top in my pic is big block 440, and bottom is small block.

Also, some say that 383 is a different length than the 440, but nobody has ever shown proof. I think all big blocks were the same length and the height difference is made up by the long length of threads at the top.

Also, be aware the throttle bracket is different between 2 barrel and 4 barrel. They both position the kickdown in the same spot, so the rod going to the carb needs to be longer with a 4 barrel. But the throttle cable mount is over 1/2” fwd. In my pic, the 4 barrel bracket is on the left and 2 barrel on the right.

Thanks Kim. You are correct the "clevis" is a clip it just looked like a clevis to me in the FSM drawing. I will for sure need the correct rod but now I am wondering if I have some mismatched linkage. The battery is dead in my mic but using a tape the part that attaches at the transmission bracket end is about 1/4"-the hole in the bracket is ever so slightly smaller. Is the BB rod slightly smaller on the lower end? I guess I could always open the hole up a tiny bit but I prefer to use the correct parts when possible.

Thanks for the info, I double checked and I do have the correct bracket

I think the hole size was standard, both my BB and SB are the same size.
There are at least 2 different bell cranks though, one with the ball stud and one without. The one with the ball stud is wider. I’m not sure what is correct for what though. I pulled these off cars in junkyards throughout the 90’s and didn’t keep track of what they came off of.

The ball stud is 68 and older has a little bigger hole than the 69 up. I think up to 68 is 5/16 and 69 up is 1/4. I’m not home to measure. The 440 rod is 1/4 in longer without the adjuster. 14 inches. 383 13 3/4. I have had some guys say the 383 rod is shorter than 13 3/4. Kim

. U need to measure with out the adjuster on it. That is a small block rod being how short it is. 273/318. There is also different length adjusters. Kim

So ur saying a 340 rod is longer than a 440 rod? Idt so. Kim

Thanks Kim I appreciate your knowledge on this topic. I have been reading up on this topic online and it is not as cut and dried as I thought at first but what I have come to understand is that with cars there were only 2 different rods as you mentioned in an earlier post. I don't have an old rod to measure all I have is the SB rod which is not even close. If I am running an 383 would I not need the 13 3/4 rod? I pinned the throttle bracket and then measured in a direct line down to the center of the hole in the bell crank and it is 14 1/4 from center of ball stud to center of hole. I would need the entire rod with clip and adjuster for this measurement to work correct?

Ok, I just realized I took some pics and measurements of the 2 bbl linkage from a 400 in a truck. The top rod will be too short for a four barrel. Kim

Best I can tell from the pic the dimension is about 14 1/4 but I would be concerned that my HP exhaust manifold would hit the rod. Also there is so much conflicting info out there but one thing I have seen consistently is car and truck rods are different? Could be because of the exhaust configuration? I guess I need to do more homework
