I had this surgery when about ten-years old (circa 1965). So did my best friend. I had sinus problems beforehand and still have 'em to this day. Don't know what the justification was for removing them. I still remember the sore throat afterward. Anyone else have this done? Photo shows "enlarged" tonsils.

I didn't have enlarged tonsils but my parents had them removed at the same time my sister got hers out. She only suffered with a mild sore throat for a short time but it hurt me! Don't remember having sinus problems before but I've had them ever since!

I had mine removed when I was about 10, back in the 50's. I don't recall the reason other then they were swollen. They removed my adenoids at the same time. I have no issues with sinus or breathing.

I woke up during mine.

I can still remember opening my eyes as the tools were going in, and one of the staff pointing and saying something, then the mask being put back over my nose.

Had mine out the day President Kennedy was shot. Couldn't figure why everyone was so broken up about my stupid tonsils.

Still have mine. Now days they want the patient to have strep throat at least three times before they'll remove them. Guess they're good for something

Anyone else get them removed and wake up after surgery with their pants off ?

I just heard recently that they can grow back.

A guy's at work daughter at 21 years old was having her tonsils out. She was a princes, dated a lot of guys. One of her boy friends who was on the outs called, dad answers the phone het asks for the princes. Dad says she's in the hospital having her tonsils out. Guy replies "i hope they take them out through her ***". Dad was pissed and yelled at him for what it was worth, zero. She was a gorgeous girl as a teenager but her hips got kinda large as she reached 20. She was a man user so I wasn't exactly surprised.

Had mine out when I was a child.
5 or 6 years old I think.
I just was happy about being able to eat all the ice cream I wanted during recovery.

I lived on Wendy's chocolate frosties for a week. Lost 24 pounds. Sadly, gained it all back within a month :(

Sadly there was no Wendy's yet when I had mine out cause I like their Frosty's.
I see they were founded at the end of 1969.
Guess I am showing my age

My brother, sister, and I had them out the same day in 1958. Mine hurt too bad to even eat the ice-cream. I found out much later in life that all our ear aches were caused by all the cigarette smoke in our house. The damn things killed both my folks.

I think the worst thing I remember about that, besides the sore throat, was the ether smell. Best thing was the ice cream after.

Nope
I have all my 'original equipment, I was delivered with',
so do all the kids, so does my niece & nephew that lived with me
& so does my 5 sisters & 2 brothers too (that I still know of)

IIRC today or since the late 80's to 90's anyway
they frown on removing them unless truly necessary

My oldest sister Lori (born 1956) use to get strep throat,
sort of a lot, inflamed tonsils
(she was an MD org., now a VMD animal vet.)
they didn't even want to take her's out...
I would have figured she'd have been a prime candidate...

I do remember a few friends that did...
They didn't seem to be keen on the idea either...
