First cars

1964 Dodge 330 2-door. Poly/727. beige with fawn interior, full wheel covers, radio delete, rubber floor mats. Eventually converted it to 383 4-speed, '65 8 3/4, widened steel wheels (rear) painted wheels body color w/button caps. A fun sleeper -

'71 Fury 360. Swapped an engine in my grandma's car & this was my payment. I was 17 at the time.

I feel ashamed.
My first car was a 1976 Opel Kadett, 1 liter engine 50 hp.

First car driven? 85 Olds Cutlass Supreme "bro-ham". Not mine, but damn near identical:

Same color, same landau top. Mine (dad's) was console/buckets, gauges, 3.8 "ping-o-matic" V6, open rear. I slid it into plenty of curbs and finally the rims were so trashed I ponied up for a set of factory alloys like these (a pretty rare option, but I scored a takeoff set from my local dealer)


As for MY first car...I still have it. Purchased brand new from Templeton Dodge/Olds in Tysons Corner VA, got a hell of a deal on it because nobody in DC wanted a manual transmission:

My second car? Here it is back in the day:


'72 Satellite Custom station wagon, factory 318/904/8.75 SG with 3.23 gears. Bought it from a bowling alley owner for $500, sophomore year of college. Ran, drove, put a TON of miles on it hauling everyone around in school. We drove it from MD to Key West, FL, for multiple spring break trips. Wiped the factory cam, put in a 340 cam and dropped on a used 4bbl intake with an old Edelbrock carb for a little more power. Eventually I pulled the 318/904 and installed a Mopar 360/380 crate motor with a 6AL and 650CFM Edelbrock manual-choke carb; and a reverse/manual 727 with a 2400 stall converter. She ran consistent low 13s on street tires and pump gas. Full interior, 3,000W stereo, wipers, lights, all steel. It has Mopar SS/D leaf springs, air shocks, and a 3 row 26" radiator. Factory power discs, power steering, a/c delete. Still have the car, with a standard LA 360 and "normal" 727 at the moment but I have a G3 Hemi that I'm "going to" install (it's been sitting next to the car in the garage for about 11 years now...). I have a brand new factory fuel tank (HARD to find a wagon tank!!!!) that I should put in the car and at least get it driving again with the 360...maybe this winter.

Yes...that's a '71 Sebring in the background that I scored for $800. Another 318/904 car, that one had factory air and was just a drive-around toy car for a while. It was rusty and didn't have a straight panel on it; I sold it to a friend for like $500 when she got booted from her folks' house and needed wheels.

1st car was a truck. A 74 GMC 3/4 ton 250 6 cyl three on the tree. Light green with 37,000 miles on it in 1976, paid $2000.00 for it. Within 2 months I bought a 350 from a friend of mine and swapped it, bought a floor shifter, popped it in, bought a pair of mustang high back bucket seats, headers, intake, carb. I made the mounting brackets for the seats out of 1/4” x2” flat stock and made a full center console, everything looked like it grew there. I do know why Chevy lost the truck sales lead. Within a year after buying it it started to rust. I traded a friend of my dads, who was a body man work, to repair and repaint it. Had a white top added and bought the factory trim that divided it. Got hit hard in the left front by an idiot who ran a light. Got it fixed, it was never right. Traded it on a new big block D150 4 months after graduating high school. So that was my first Mopar, with over 30 to follow.

my first car was a 63 impala ss 409 4speed paid 250.for it in 75 blew the 409 up put a 327 in it then sold it and bought a 68 road runner and hooked ever since

First car I drove: parents new (special order) '71 Road Runner Bahama Yellow 383 Auto with spoiler package, fresh air, and canopy vinyl roof.

First car I purchased circa 1973: '65 Plymouth Valiant four-door 273 Auto which I paid $125.00. Fixed it up as a bracket racer (with a four speed); see first two photos. In 1980 sold it to the Renteria Brothers.

The last photo is how the Valiant looks today.

OK, this is probably the last car that I would expect to be anyone's first car. Nice that your first car was a HEMI. The first car that I financed (made payments on) was a '76 Alfetta 2.0 (USA). It had 17K miles on it when I bought it in 1978. My nephew still owns it.

My dad gave me this one because he got a new/used '79 Alfetta 2.0 from the dealer in Bad Aibling Germany.

First car? First Mopar? Daily driver in HS and after? Here's mine, which was all of the above for me.
