I have a problem with my stock floor shifter. I removed the set screw, and tried removing the shift handle. I kept turning, and turning, and it will not come off. It is a shifter handle for a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere. Is it possible the cable is broken inside the shift handle?

Is it a console automatic shifter?

As you've unscrewed it, have you noticed that the button is any lower in the handle? Maybe stripped threads? Pull up on handle while unscrewing, what happens? We need more info on what you've tried so far besides screwing. Good Luck

I have done those things you mentioned it will screw all the way down, but when i go to unscrew it, it just keeps turning, and i pull up on the handle with some pressure it just keeps turning without coming off.

Pull harder up when trying to unscrew. You need to engage the bottom threads.

I'll give it a shot, then i'll break out the air chisel. :)

So what's the center button doing in all this, is it getting taller or shorter? If it's getting shorter, just keep unscrewing.

Your just turning the center button correct? Not the outer shell with the set screw.

Yes, i am turning the button, the handle itself is disengaged, but the button keeps turning, might be a broken cable inside the shift handle
