One dead, five injured in US bee swarm attack (msn.com)

A man is dead and at least five people were injured in a bee swarm attack in a neighbourhood in the United States this week.

Police and fire crews were called to the residential street in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday (local time), with three firefighters "stung multiple times" while attempting to help locals affected by the swarm.

Three residents were also stung hundreds of times by the bees, with one person dying from their injuries, the Northwest Fire District said in a post on Facebook.

One firefighter was taken to hospital after being stung about 60 times but has since been released, the fire department said. The other firefighters didn't need medical treatment.

"A large open hive, estimated to be around 100 pounds [45kg] was located in a tree nearby," the Northwest Fire District said.

According to the Marana Police Department, bee handlers killed most of the bees and removed the hive after the incident.

Decided to watch the local news this morning after ignoring it most of the week except for the weather report. Dang man....

:poke:Were any of them Super Bees?:eek::rolleyes:
Killer Bees of the Dodge persuasion. What a way to die :( Watched a swarm of honey bees land in a small tree out behind my place years ago but stayed away from them. Never been stung by honey bees but know they can and don't want to find out how many it would take to kill me. Maybe the queen bee somehow got loose? Anyways, they were gone the next day.

Years back when I was managing a 28 acre Vineyard a swarm of bees came through that I believe was someone's hive that got away... I saw it coming off in the distance was a massive 100ft by 30ft cloud of bees. I was able to yell and get the guys I had working for me into thier cars before they came through... I will never forget that..

35 yrs ago I was at the top of a 40 ft telephone pole, training in Camp Pendleton, when a swarm came through. Like a small dark cloud coming at you. No idea what it was until the Instructor yelled, “swarm!” No one moved. They landed about 100 ft away from us under an old wooden cable reel/drum. Apparently they were honey bees, thank God.

Some of you always have to bring Covid and then politics into the conversation don't you.

Well Mike, I apparently the Covid comment resonates with a lot of people. Also, as far as bringing up politics... all I see is Hilljack and IMP got their comments changed, which makes them look like two morons talking about ORs. No political party was mentioned in the original posts.

I got lit up over the weekend, I was bush hogging the field when I got nailed, didn't think much of it then another and another... After the second one I was looking, I had stirred them up alright because they were all over me!!! I threw the tractor in gear but wasn't getting away so I killed the ignition on my off of the tractor and bolted! I got a decent look at them, Bald Head Hornets again? Second time in a few years getting ate up by them. They say they won't bother you unless provoked, not only did I unknowingly knock down the nest but I chewed it up too!

They're freaking scary when they get organized and come at you for sure!
They also like to sometimes get your attention by doing a full-speed flying head-butt right into your noggin.
I've experienced that a couple times, where a single "soldier" takes aim and bam!
Feels like someone chucked a rock at you...

Your not kidding especially when you look back and see he's bringing the swarm with him! Seems like they have a perimeter once aggrevated, if you can make it 50-60yds or so they back off but that's a good distance when you're getting nailed. I went back an hour later but stayed 80yds away and still had 2 come over and make me uncomfortable enough to leave.

That was it for me, I had **** to do so I suited up and exterminated them!

Oh yeah, they DO remember you for sure. Little demons from the depths of hell...
