64 426 street wedge?????????

Air cleaner call out Plymouth only. (decal)

And the hp ratings of the Max Wedges were 410 and 420 for the 413 and 415 and 425 for the 426. Don't matter what stage the 426 was they all had the same 415 and 425 hp even though they dropped the 13.5 comp to 12.5 in 64 on the stage III eng. Ron
good insight. I remember the 13.5 compression engines were very cantankerous, the 11.5 /415 HP were equal to them on any given day. (11 or 11.5 ? I can't remember) side note -cheap higher stall street performance for the wedge engines- use a torque converter from the 360 2 bbl engines which were higher stall for station wagons, identified by the wider ring gear is desirable. external balanced for 360? yes- but a couple of blows with a hammer will remove the counterbalance and you are good to go. it's only held on with weak spot welds, never seen one leak after the weight removed. I prefer them to aftermarket hi stall which feel like driving in mud unless your full throttle , not desirable for the street. these help and still are solid at higher rpms.

These 426/365 hp motors were basically 426 Magnums"-Similar stuff as some of the 1967 cars without the 440 heads. Don't think they had been developed yet. They were GREAT fun to put 361 emblems on the hood and go GTO-396 Chevelle hunting with!! Since the 361's were 2bbl single exhaust, we'd cut a couple of inches off of one tailpipe and put a single chrome tip on the one that was the same side as a 361!! It was a wonderful fake out!! They didn't know what hit them, and we never told!!!

They were call 426 Commando

yes there was a street option 426 single 4 bbl in 1964 but did not have the heads/cam etc of the race engine. I was asked to evaluate a NEW '64 Plymouth with that engine and 4 speed trans, it would have been much better with an auto trans. still a heck of a street ride. if it was a factory street 426 the hood ornament would have said 426.

I just found a site that lists a 64 Dodge as available with a 426 wedge single four barrel, 375 HP and 465 LBTQ at 5600 rpm. Anyone know for sure if this was an option, driving Me crazy trying to verify a singe 4 barrel 426 in a 64 Dodge.
The lady I just bought this car from swears her brother, who owned the car and bought it second hand in 1966 from the original dealership it was sold from, is a 426 car, and He parked after high school, aroung 67-68. Maybe a dealer installed motor?
definitely an option, drove a new one in '64 with 4 speed, pretty cool car too.

All 426 streetwedge’s I’ve ever seen had Crome valve covers & air cleaners. But only the c body Plymouth’s got the Comando 426 air cleaner decal

That is not true....For 65 Plymouth used that air cleaner decal on the 426-S and only that year.

426 street wedge had no ID such as Chrome etc. it may be the first year the hood emblem actually said 426. real 426 superstocks had a blank hood emblem. I did a road test/appraisal of the 426 street wedge with 4 speed for the dealer I'd purchased a new Plymouth SS426/auto in '63~ disappointing- perhaps I was comparing it to the 426SS Plymouth I'd purchased from them in 1963. that was long ago. I remember these things but not what I had for lunch yesterday. age thing, I'm 80.
Plymouth sent us "tuning tips" for the SS cars-such as drain some ATF from the trans to reduce the amount of fluid in the converter in an attempt to raise stall speed, then sent memo ,don't do that. then-neutral start with the auto trans, again uh -don't do that. great time to be a racer.

From what I remember back in the day every 426/365 I saw (and I would go around looking for them but most were Plymouths) did have chrome valve covers and the big chrome dome air filter top. I was kind of jealous since my 64 Sport Fury had a 383 4bbl with no chrome.

there is a road test of a 64 sport fury in the 1964 jan issue of motor trend mag

You mean this one??

I own a 64 Sport Fury 426 convertible and have done exhaustive research on them over the last few years. Chrome valve covers & air cleaner were most definatly part of the 426-S package as was heavy duty suspension, 11 x 3" front drums in front, 11 x 2.5 in rear, front sway bar, 7.50" rims (same as wagon).

Tell me, what is a 426SS??

awesome- proves my failing memory-I was so disinterested in the 426 street wedge I didn't bother to memorize the bling-glad they did have the chrome though-very fitting.
