Just read an article on the "Wild West " a few weeks ago... Spoke of how it was NO WHERE near as wild as these fake westerns show it..
What it did say is how its MUCH MORE dangerous in the big cities in todays " modern" world.... Be safe

Watched Tombstone again last night. Read an interesting article about the making of that movie.

The cast wore wool costumes in the hot Arizona sun during the filming. If you watch some of the day scenes you can see them sweating profusely.

The original director passed away during filming. Kurt Russell stood in as the quasi director

in the final scene where Val Kilmer was laying in his death bed he had the bed underneath him filled with ice. He wanted his body stressed to give the impression he was near death.

Billy Thornton ad libbed the entire scene with Kurt Russell

I liked the Hatfields and Mccoys with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton

I always watched "Centennial" growing up when sick.

Never could fake it enough to stay home enough to see the whole thing.

This is on Grit TV today. Made in 1939 and shows the common men, brothers Frank and Jesse, against the Iron Horse.

Hombre with Paul Newman. Also Richard Boone, Fredric March, Martin Balsam, Diane Cilento and, scene stealing Frank Silvera. A gritty movie of right and wrong and doing what needs to be done.

My children are studying Fredrick Remington paintings and they want to watch some Westerns because of that.

My 17 yr old girls have already seen:

The Cowboys

The Unforgiven

The Searchers

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

I'm gonna show them Lonesome Dove (been saving that for a long time!) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (they loved Hud btw).. suggestions please. I want to share some classics they will enjoy and hopefully spark their interest in the genre. Already thinking of Red River, Rooster Cogburn, and True Grit, The Shootist, and the Clint Eastwood Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and Hang Em' High movies.

Thanks in advance guy and girls. I'm looking forward to any and all suggestions.

apologies in advance also for my drunken typing skillz :O
The Outlaw Josey Wales

“The Big Country “ starring Gregory Peck, Burl Ives, Chuck Connors, Charleston Heston.

Another one I like is Dead Man with Johnny Depp, a big transformation of his charter by the end. And Robert Mitchem's last film. Gabriel Byrne, Billy Bob Thornton, Iggy Pop, Crispen Glover, Lance Henriksen, John Hurt, and another scene stealer Gary Farmer. Music by Neil Young.

"News of The World" modern made western with Tom hanks.

Not sure if this was recommended, not a usual Western, but the Series called "Hell on Wheels" was Really Good. We're thinking of re-watching it again, as most other trash is just that...

Watching a big-budget movie by Sam Peckinpah. Some of his are great some are so-so. This one is in-between. It's on youtube right now.

Major Dundee. Great cast. OMG Senta Berger is beautiful.
