Industrial block?

Found a supposedly “industrial 440 block”, it’s a 78 and it is different, for example it has humps in the valley where the cylinders are as opposed to my other 78 block which is flat in the valley. Is there such a thing as an industrial block? It’s already been to a machine shop and checked, had 17,000 miles on it, std bore of course I’ll send it to my shop and check it out and bore it .030”to fit my pistons, ndt and pressure checked. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
Certainly desireable to keep at std bore, but the deciding factor in my opinion would be the amount of taper in the cylinders. Your machine shop can determine that pretty quickly for you. Should be ok at that mileage but check to be sure.
 
Pistons $550, sealed Power pistons $375 vs overbore and hone finish $320?
 
I can see wanting to use what's on hand, but it would be a shame to weaken a block unnecessarily and permanently.
 
Yep there's such a thing as industrial blocks...I ran a '73 #2658836 block for a few years, at 4.360" and then eventually took it out to 4.380" bores and it was a great street motor. They accept the same pieces and parts as any other casting, some were just accessorized differently depending on the intended use. Some were even reverse-rotating, so some of the industrial crankshafts are wrong for use in a car but if you're putting in a new (or standard) rotating assembly then you're good to go.

What's your casting number? If it's a '78 it's likely just an RV block.

My RB block currently in use was from an RV, and has the 'humps' you speak of....though it is not technically an "industrial" block. It's casting #4006630 which was the standard block at that time....but it goes to show they were considered suitable in 'heavy-duty' applications.
