Anyone have had any experience with these cheap ones? Harbor Fright eBay ETC?

I know made in China, one man off you tube has one and suggested it. Amazon listed it cheap.

I need it to cut the torsion bar anchor rear mount (also from China?) hole to reposition it it's cocked and the bar won't line up with the lower control arm. I could burn it off with a torch but that might be to much heat?

Many Thanks

Just a thought. Would it be cheaper to call a guy that has all the proper equipment on a service truck to do both. Cut , fit and weld.
The Cut will be done right, the fit will be done and welded with good penetration.

If I was closer I'd stop by and help you get it done . . .

Got mine from Woodward Fab and it was a great investment . . . Glad I have one now and find myself using it many times now that it's available . . . . .

I bought this a few years ago, it did quite a nice job of trimming sheet metal when doing body work. I haven't tried it on anything over 1/4" though.

Many thanks for the thought. I'm winding down on the car hobby now so a high dollar investment would be unreasonable.

It came with everything needed for cutting except, of course, an air compressor. It even had spare consumables (copper tips and porcelain nozzles).

(edit) like I said, it was a few years ago. Now that I think back, I may have had to wire in the power plug. It's supposed to run on 110 or 220 50/60 hz so it didn't come equipped with a North American plug. It was easy.

If you pound a wooden blank into the hex hole, then use a hole saw to cut out the
part from both sides, you won't hack everything up too bad.

I bought the one JEGS sells a couple years ago. Will run on 110 or 220 volt service. Completely different machine when plugged into 220. I wasn't too thrilled with the 110 volt performance, but guess that's to be expected. Bought a small in line air dryer. Investigating the imported cutters it was apparent most all of them were built by the same place with minor 'brand' changes to color, labels, few controls/position.

The maintenance guys at work borrowed mine shortly after I bought it and were impressed enough to where they bought one for work (occasional use) and it's served them well.

One caution: consumables for some can be hard to find. Twice I've had to bring in my extras so they could keep running while working to find replacements. They've always been able to find them but it's something of a hassle.

I would guess the elcheapo plasma would do the job. I would not have any expectation of it lasting more then a few jobs and obvious when it quits...and it will. Game over. I believe most are made cheaply with the use of invertor technology, but are pretty simple and powerful for there size. Plasma cutters use dangerous voltages and require skill to repair... it can be a few hundred just to look at one wo fixing anything. We have only used name brands, i did some research on the cheap ones and decided we were better off with depreciation on a name brand. Thermal dynamic 60i currently. Had miller and hypertherm before. Single phase out in the country our line voltage varies. We have to have a machine that reads line voltage and adjusts accordingly. Went through 3 bigger 100amp plasmas before we figured that out.

What I'm thinking by the time I hire a mobile welding company a hundred or two hundred might be well spent on this machine.

Thanks everyone for the input as always it helps to read what advice/experience others have on a given subject.
