After installing a hyperspark.

After the hyper spark install the initial timing is now at 12 BTDC and my question is would the lower timing than the 14 or 15 it had before reduce vacuum enough to make the brake pedal hard? The brakes were fine before installing the hyper spark. Now they are stiff and hard to push. Just a thought on the timing making a difference. I can set static timing on it via the hand held and I may try setting it at 15 just to see if the brakes come back. I did replace the cam but even after the cam install the brakes were good to go, problem came after the hyperspark install.

EDIT: I just thought about something as I was leaving this thread. I may not have plugged the old vacuum advance port on the sniper. DERP I'm going to check that now. I feel like an idiot. I hope that is the issue though.
 
Well I just went out and looked I didn't forget to plug it. So that's not it. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks.
 
Do you have a vacuum gauge? Yes, lower timing will reduce vacuum.

Yes I have one. I haven't had time to hook it up but will tomorrow. I thought that might be the issue since that's really the only thing that changed.
 
I would have thought a few degrees of timing would not have a great effect on the brakes.
Something else perhaps?
Have you got vacuum at the booster?
 
Got late will check it tomorrow. But I did pull the hose off of the booster seems like I remember hearing it. But I was more focused on the timing and stuff at that point. I will check the vacuum tomorrow when I get home from work.
 
My bet: reduced timing = less vacuum, thus harder/less effective brake pedal.
The first thing I did 7 years ago was replace the factory drum front brakes with disc brakes, but I kept the manual master cylinder.
Now almost 7 years later and my really over the top, 6 piston calipers on all 4 wheels, 12.88" front and 12.19" rear Wilwood disc brake system and a new Wilwood manual master cylinder!
I don't have to worry about vacuum.
 
You can adjust your initial right on the handheld. Kick it up to 15-18 or more if you want. If it starts a little hard, there's also a cranking setting for timing so you can set that to 12 if you want.
 
I'm not sure about the Hyperspark but on my Holley Dual sync, you had to phase the the dizz 50° BTDC before entering your initial timing setpoint.

Correct. You do need to "phase" it but that is first thing done. Setting "static" timing to match the motor with a timing light. Once that's completed, you can set your initial wherever you like and use the cranking timing to get it running.

So I have a question you may be able to answer, I have the Terminator HP and in the directions for said to verify your static timing by disconnecting the injectors and turning the motor over. How were you able to do that? My electronic light would not pick up when cranking, I have the MSD 6AL.

Unfortunately, I have the Sniper. On my unit, you start motor, set static timing to 15-20 degrees and then "time" motor to match with a timing light. Once they match, lock down and your pretty much done. Only other item is the dwell. As you rev the motor, if the timing moves, you can use the inductive delay to adjust and keep the timing rock solid when motor is revved up.

I would be surprised if the terminator is much different but it's a much more thorough software package for sure.
