Howdy,

So with the intense heat and humidity here in the Montreal, I figured I'd inquire about why there is hot air constantly flowing out of my vents.

It's a 1967 satellite that originally had a/c (which is long gone). My vent controls don't work and I thought my --warmer--> dial cable was seized closed. Is there a gate or valve in the a/c box that may be stuck open? Or is it normal that hot air flows through all the time.

Thanks

Hello,
Do you have access to a factory service manual? It would explain how the entire system functions and would aid in trouble shooting.

Depends on how the A/C was disconnected.
1. If the water valve on the firewall is still being used, then it is faulty and letting hot water flow through the heater core, or your temperature control is not shutting it off completely.
2. If your water valve is disconnected, water flows through the heater core all the time and you would need to install a shutoff valve into the heater hose to the heater core.

Under hood pictures of the hoses at the firewall would help.

If you have an A/C car you would have a valve to shut off hot water from the radiator, when you move the cable to cool. If not, like me, I installed a ball valve and shut the water off in the summer and open it in the winter. I posted it a while ago and maybe you can do a search and see it. I don't remember if it was A, B or E body where I posted it. What I posted was on a Hemi gen2 but same as a B or RB motor. I see you have A/C so maybe move the valve manually to shut water.

I don't have access to a fsm. But I should probably start looking for a copy since my car is pretty bastardized.

I still have the hoses from the water pump connected to the firewall. The a/c pieces from under the hood are completely gone. That's how I got the car so I kept them installed. It would be nice to have heat some nights in spring and fall.

Do I need to remove the whole box from under the dash to access and inspect the valve? Or could I pull out the blower motor and check through there?

Thanks

No, the water valve is on the firewall, and you say it's been removed. So is there a hole where it was or just no hoses connected there. A picture would surely help. I don't have a good enough picture of a A/C firewall to point out what you are looking for.

Here is what the water valve and hose routing should look like on a 67 Satellite A/C car. Heat/Cool slider on the dash controls the valve. The valve is prone to leaking and is not a good design so these are often bypassed and the hoses routed directly to the heater core (2 hoses on the left). When I bought it, this car had an aftermarket shut off valve mounted to the inner fender controlled by an additional cable into the car that were added by the previous owner.

Incidentally, the small black hose going though the firewall just below the voltage regulator is the vacuum line for the push button dash switches that operate the heater box doors. This should be ported off the back of the intake manifold. On mine, it is teed off the power brake booster port. The dash switch often breaks over time which opens a vacuum leak leading to capping the intake and doing without moving doors in the heat/ac system.

Yup. Mine is routed directly to the heater core. I didn't realize there were more parts missing. Not very surprising though. I have nothing like that under the hood. I'll just install a valve.

Sorry Jerry. I never got around to trying to post pictures.

Thanks guys
