I've lived here 52 years and I just learned...

There are also islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

And the Azores, Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, The Canarys, The Faroe Islands, Barbados.... And many many more..

Something I found out about maybe 30 years ago that my grandparents on my mom's side came from the Azores and at the time I had never heard of the place lol. Not sure I'd care to live on something like that though.....

Damn Portagee.... I have quite a few friends from the Azores, lotta Portagees in this area....

OMG, another Portagee! Lots of homies around here plus Italian/Swiss. Gotta love the various influences especially when it comes to grub. Linguica. MMMMMM!

Just sit right back....and you'll hear a tale....

(My favorite ship !!! The U.S.S. Minnow...)

....the Professor and Mary Ann.... here on Gilligan's
Issslllleeee......
S.S. means "Steam Ship." The Minnow wouldn't have been named that.

See. I KNEW GILLIGAN'S ISLAND WAS FAKE! Boom! There it is!

Used to be EXCELLENT fishing out there before the preserve was created. & Yes, those islands are a regular stop for great white sharks.
One trip out there ages ago the sea was like glass, not a ripple/no drift whatsoever.
We'd drop our rock cod jigs & bring up 5 fatties at a time.
4 drops & limited on those.
Then switched to 6-8oz leadhead jigs with green/black grubs & hauled up limits of ling.
Didn't lose much tackle at all that trip, usually very windy & hung up a lot.
Saw dolphins, orca (big dolphins) & whales several times.
Never saw a great white though.

There are islands off the coast of San Francisco.

What the heck? All these years and I just heard about this today.

Yeah, it is 30 miles off the coast but I'm amazed that I'd never heard of these island before.
The topic came up when the Job Superintendent mentioned that the company once put in a bid on a construction project there.
Uhh, Greg, we need you on the job Monday.

Oh, I quit.

I'd say acceptable (not knowing) since you're a suburb of Sacramento and 100 miles from Frisco

'No Man is an Island'
No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Olde English Version
No man is an Iland, intire of itselfe; every man
is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine;
if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe

And my mom had to marry some hick from Mississippi and diluted the strain lol. One thing I never got to do was ask dad how and where they met....and wasn't old enough to even think about it to ask mom before she passed on.

You're proving that no matter how much you know or how smart you are, there will always be something you are not aware of. I prove that to myself on a regular basis.
I always tell people, I'm not as stupid as I look !!

Having also been through the Azores on many occasions Cranky I can assure you it is a very livable and beautiful place. Excellent food and the wine is some of the best. US has a very large Air Base there, Lages and it's big...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

I know your referring to something higher class than what the locals call "Portagee Diesel":lol:

I don’t suggest swimming out there, Great White sharks are hunting seals around those islands. But if there’s Orcas, your good to go, they like GWS livers.

That is one more thing that digs at me.....When you lose a parent, you lose a valuable resource for many things.

"Ok, if we really want to hijack KD's thread....
Ginger or Mary Ann?
I'm a Mary Ann man."

Give me a woman with money, Mrs Howell..........:D

(actually, out of the actors who were on that show, she was the only one who was a real millionaire)
