It is there, stuck to the bottom of the pan to collect tiny metal particles that come from normal wear and tear. It gets cleaned off with a transmission service and put back in. 
Some pans even had a dimple to locate the center hole of the magnet.

Great buttoned pan back up and the magnet is still laying there on floor where I cleaned the pan.
At least I didn't put the fluid back in yet.
Now that I have to take it back off again is there any adjustments I can make with pan off?
