I was doing some work on my carb and realized my kickdown linkage did not let my carb go to WOT so I reset adjusted the linkage and it seems to have unmasked an issue. Now my 904 is flaring up under light throttle when shifting from 2-3. Additional throttle helps the shift feel. I just tried adjusting the front band and that helped a little by reducing the issue to just light throttle but I at 1-7/8turns out on the adjuster and thinking that is about the limit for the band.

I am thinking now it might be a late front clutch engagement. Is there a way to raise pressure to the front clutch without tearing the transmission apart? Any other thoughts on what the issue could be? (Really hoping it's not a smoked clutch pack).

I have experienced that exact issue - for mine the fix was readjusting the kickdown to provide more pressure, but still allowing the carb to open fully. It was a very fine adjustment, took a few goes. I couldn't achieve both goals without putting a small bolt in the kickdown lever slot. I tried to eliminate it but it wouldn't work. On a factory set-up it isn't required but once you start changing manifolds, carbs etc it can be.

Nice looking POLY! I'm about to replace my WCFB and install a new Edelbrock AVS2 on a '56 4 brl manifold. Obviously there will be linkage issues. You may be hearing from me...again.

Alright I'll adjust the linkage and add some throttle pressure back and see how that goes. I think this is just going to accelerate me getting my 340/a518 combo together.
