A Song You Can Remember Your Parents Listening To

Patsy had a rough-short life as I've read about. Really liked her music, just a standout. Sad as she was just getting to reap the benefits of her talents...she perished in a plane crash.

My mum tormented us with polkas, polkas, and more polkas. (Of course, my brothers and I tormented her with Rush, Zeppelin and The Who).

Ah yes, polkas.

My grandparents introduced me to the one above.

My dad was an organ/piano bar musician. WAY too many to list. They actually didn't listen to alot of music. He played every night. He then created "Spot light singer" where one of his singer regulars would get a free meal from the club. And drinks, while singing small sets in his night. Which I believe later evolved to karaoke. He was old school. Can play anything. But also change the key of the song to fit the singers strengths. What I didn't like? I was the oldest. And only boy. So guess who got to lug those organ and pianos around between gigs? (They did get lighter as technologies changed. But still!) But most his gigs were long club standing. At least one year. Which is RARE in the music industry.

Besides the polkas... (man, this is embarrassing)...

Country music. Grand 'Ole Opry.....1950's hits/1960's hits. Gospel stuff too. Fond of Charlie Rich, that sort of tunes...

My folks were more big band era. My dad actually watched that Lawrence Welk show? YUCK! Nothing got be outside faster.

Most anything by George Jones and Johnny Cash

Wow, this one brings me way back to my Dad playing Mario Lanza records on Sunday mornings.

my parents especially my mother were classical music fans. They had it on all the time. I grew up with Rossini, Vivaldi and all the rest. I don't listen to it anymore.
I think it had a big effect on me. I listen to everything from bluegrass to blues. But no opera, show tunes or rap.

Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys! Covered by Merle and The Original Texas Playboys - Remember riding in the back seat of my dads '56 Crown Vic headed from Dallas to San Antonio late one night going on vacation. No AC windows down blasting down the highway with Bob Wills in full swing!

Mom loved Neil Diamond and played "Cracklin Rosie" all the time. When we found out the song was written about a cheap bottle of wine the winos drank, she almost cried. It fell out of the line up....
