I found an interesting car for sale

You could have a Slant Six car with an 8-3/4" SG - I did, on a couple of cars.

...needless to say....Frankenstein was a good story, but a man of many parts. (hehe)

I pulled the 440 out of a ‘68 Imperial back in the mid 80’s. It had the sure grip, but the smaller carrier.

So you mean the automatic hemi cars had the 8 3/4" instead of a dana 60? Good to know.
Would be interesting to know if this one has sure grip since it was an original 383 4 speed car. I THINK the paperwork of my charger states sure grip and this cars does not. So probably open diff?
Same trans also, except perhaps Beefed up a bit

Looks like a decent car but the phony paperwork casts doubt on the entire car. Yes a 727 behind a Hemi was beefed up.

We like to think that "cloning" is a recent effort but it was being done even back in the day. If you had the money you could go to a dealership and buy all the parts needed to make your non-hemi car a hemi car and more than one person did. No doubt that a few people chose to pay the dealership to do the swap but that would have been pretty expensive given the price of labor and no dealership would have sold you the parts at cost and provided free labor unless you owned the dealership.

IMO this a car that was built some time ago and someone decided to create some "documentation" to explain it which might have had merit 30 years ago or more but today no one really cares, its either a R code car or it isn't. How it got the hemi is of little concern unless it is a butcher job, but if it was done well then it is what it is. We have a V code (6 pack) challenger around here that has a Hemi in it, seemed like a natural upgrade and it presents very well as the owner/builder used all original Hemi stuff to install it.

Read the letter from the Chrysler Registry, it says "0 3 speeds" were made in 71, yet the window sticker clearly states 3 speed. It also says "no RT convertibles" yet the other documents keep referring to it as an RT. They say that the car was decoded by Galen but don't show that document. Despite Galen's desire to get paid I doubt he would have "certified" this to be a dealer swap, most likely just said its a 383 3-speed convertible 71 Challenger with rallye dash.

Remember, that so-called "Chrysler Registry" is Govier's OWN registry of "known cars" to HIM. Plus, I really don't see him "registering" a Hemi clone car in said registry.

This car came with a 3 speed manual transmission.

Being CA car, it most likely would have turn down exhaust tips instead of the chrome tips & the standard fuel cap was a painted cap, so
What's this "body side lacquer paint stripe" & "V7W paint stripe code?

Bottom line is that the car is what it is & considering it's a clone with a Hemi under the hood, the price doesn't seem too outrageous today.

I concur: surely $85k for Hemi Challenger convertible clone is a good price (these days).

A buddy bought a '70 Hemicuda clone ragtop with a Ray Barton 512 CI Hemi a while back for less than $100K.

The window sticker plainly states 4 speed.

Doesn't this say 3 speed....

was this another 'far-fetched tale' of a mailroom dude ? :fool:
attempt to justify the cost

Just kidding :hifu:

it's another BS story/fake documentation thou...

Yes... Butttttt.... It also says Std equipment on this model... But option code D21 is where the 4 Spd was an added option

Anyone besides me questioning the authenticity of the window sticker?

(This is why you don't fudge documents or fender tags. Once one of the items becomes suspect ALL of the items, and the owner, become suspect.)

LOL I even never entertained the thought of it being real.....

I dont think Challengers came with 78 series tires.
Dad's 70 base Challenger came with E-70s Polyglas tars and it was a 318 with the only options being radio, auto, buckets, console and floor shift.
If I read it right the sticker reads it has F-78-14s.

Placing VIN JH27N1B405248 here for future search hits.

And this is why I like Original cars. You just never know the real history of the car. The paper work(window sticker) is misleading for sure. Whats the car like under neath the finish? Could it be as bad? The Challenger looks good from 2500 miles away. :D

To the OP’s question about the SG, it was available with the following axle packages. It could also be ordered separately, but this car does not seem to have that option
