Just curious about military surplus?

I used to wear my dad's Eisenhower jacket 40+ years ago he gave me; well someone with sticky fingers decided they should take ownership of it...
there is always someone wanted the stuff we like

I understand the military surplus stores in the '50's, but can't help but wonder if any of that stuff is actually "surplus" in todays stores.

The Defense Re-utilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) does still sell actual surplus military items to the public. The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) ensures all items that can be used by other government agencies, schools, law enforcement and such, are given priority over anything before it becomes available to you and me, and surplus stores..

Yeah – isn’t it funny how some slimy scum fucks think it’s fine to take **** that belongs to someone else, something the owner paid for or was passed down from a family member. Let’s see, it’s been my dad’s watch he wore for 25 years my mom gave him in 1953, a sand wedge my dad gave me that he used in the 40-50’s, and his military jacket when he served as part of the occupied forces in Japan, ya know…kind a really special stuff I was looking forward to passing along to my nephews.

The Taliban has something right IMO – they’ll cut a hand off of ******* thieves. Read just the other day they were dolling out ‘justice’ to a skank who broke into home stealing a ring AND they asked the guy whose house was broken into if they should also cut a leg off since it was a 2nd crime entering the home. Savage stuff? Far as I’m concerned having items lifted that meant the world to me…not so much.

Sure it is,BUT it's getting rotten now.

Afghanistan would be the #1 place to look today.

As I was saying..........

Taliban Opens Chain Of U.S. Army Surplus Stores

KABUL—Now that Allah has seen fit to bless the Taliban with bountiful weapons and equipment from the U.S. Military, terrorists around Afghanistan have built an already thriving chain of U.S. Army Surplus stores.

"We need weapons to kill and subjugate the Afghan people under Sharia Law, but there's just too much gear here!" said local Taliban leader Bob Muhammed. "There's, like, billions of dollars and 20 years worth of weaponry around here, and now I can build a thriving business out of selling my wares to other terrorist folk who happen to pass through! Allah be praised!"

Although the merchandise will not be available to the general public (for obvious reasons), Muhammed's Army Surplus will feature a full selection of deadly weaponry, ammunition, combat boots, MREs, helmets, hashish, and whatever else a soldier of Allah may need.

If successful, Bob Muhammed hopes to open more stores in Iraq and Syria.

The U.S. Government has taken note as new store locations open up for future drone pilot target practice.

This situation where multiple-billions of dollars of OUR military equipment fell into the hands of a government, if we can call it this, that is an enemy is nauseating to put it lightly. On top of this were the billions we poured into the afgan ‘government’ to shore it up as a government, with those dollars going unaccounted for – for DECADES. The POS afgan prez fled the country with multiple millions of OUR money. How in theee **** does our government find this tolerable for more than a minute? Any way that I try to view this, the same answers crop up: Dumb ****, idiotic, insane, pathetic…can’t drum up a word that puts THIS into accurate perspective. And this prez, as others before, have said they're accountable? Really? Exactly how so? A negotiated deal with the taliban by the former admin is supposed to be upheld? Sorry, new situation here...IF the current admin finds issues to be strategically addressed, set it on our terms...not the ******* taliban's. The taliban wants to start attacking US forces, as we are working to get our asses and allies out of the country...then expect some fast and furious repercussions. The scrambling RUSH to evacuate people and vet them on a time clock is bullshit.

We still have a few stores around locally, though it's been a few years since I've been in one. Used to be WWII/Korea era gear in the surplus stores. Then it became the 'Nam era stuff. Then the Iraqi/ODS campaign stuff started to appear, lots of desert camo as we were transitioning to the digitized camo. Most of my camping gear is gen-u-wine U.S.-produced military surplus....now it seems most of the stuff they sell is the plastic chinese-made "tactical" gear for all the wannabes. They still usually have lots of ammo cans in various sizes though....and you can't ever have too many of those!

I don't think "fell into" is exactly accurate. It was abandoned and left for them.
We used to have Army/Navy surpluses all over Houston when I was a kid. I loved going into them.
Bought a flight suit to use during hunting season for like $10. I think it's in the attic still.
As far as those wool blankets, I thought those were torture blankets for the enemies!!!

I found my work bench blanket at the Army Surplus store in Trenton, Tennessee about 16 miles away. It's served me well now for over 15 years with two minor infractions: I cut through it with a razor blade once, and a shop kitty left PlastiDip paw prints on it while I was finishing a set of Commando wire tabs and left the lid laying on the bench. Oooooops.

Just looked up from my work to see this.
Plastic Dip Lid vs. Shop Cat ... the current score is 4-0.

I suppose that one paw pad will now be quieter and better insulated from electrical shock.

Classic Paw Print!
GREAT!

6 "Army Surplus" Stores listed in the smaller town of Killeen, TX. Killeen's major income source is Ft. Hood so maybe some interesting finds there.

Used to love wandering around in military
surplus stores. We have one where I live,
but the owner is kind of a jerk.
I needed an emergency brake for my build,
and being familiar with what the military
uses, I ordered one. ($5.00) plus shipping.

I can remember going into Yellow Front Army Surplus Store when I was 9 years old with my Dad to buy my first
Hi power rifle so I could go deer hunting with him. He paid $6.95 for a Mannlicher Carcano Model 91/38 6.5 It was wrapped in wax paper covered with cosomoline. My orders were when we get home I was to clean the gun first thing. I still have that gun to this day in its original condition. Not worth much, just sentimental value.
