To start things off I thought I would help my dad out with his 1973 charger 400 big block. He had a rad that needed to be replaced so I purchased him one from summit that said direct fit. It showed up and did not have the inlet on the right side like was needed. I contacted summit and they said they don’t have one that would work, I did find that you can buy a water pump housing to come out on the driver side, so I bought him that.(this is all without seeing or being there to help him) he installed the housing and now the rad will work for him, problem is that the hose would have to run through the belt and the power steering pump is kind of in the way.

was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing this? I really regret not being there to help him otherwise I would’ve got him to return the rad and purchase one from a different company.

Thanks

I will try to find this bracket you are talking about. Any suggestions on where to look?
I appreciate the help

Getting his stock radiator recored would have been the best solution, that wouldn't have created these new issues.

Local companies wanted $1000 to do the old rad. Plus this rad I purchase was a 4 core polished aluminum for $400

Where are you? Had mine done for less than $400 Cdn 2 years ago, in our hick town of Midland. So you're now $400 into a radiator + a $$ water pump and now looking for power steering pump brackets to lift the pump up. Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but even at the $1000 it would have solved the issue with one stroke and probably cooled better than the new aluminum radiator.

Again I realize this. Like I said, I was not there to help him. I was trying to solve a problem that was made. Telling me what I should have done was not really what I was asking for, But I appreciate the input.

TN mopar thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

All of you above, quit 2nd guessing him and coulda woulda shoulda. My '67 water pump inlet is on the driver side also. Not sure part numbers, but TN Mopar above has a 66 n mine is a 67, so I'd be looking for power steering bracket for bb Mopar of those yrs. Yes, totally understand the frustration when they say it's a direct fit.

The only problem with the above suggestion is different power steering pumps. The 66-67 is a federal/TRW style and the newer one pictures in post#1 is a saginaw style I believe. The brackets that bolt onto an earlier style pump won't fit the saginaw, so probably have to look for a 70 style and up bracket set for your style steering pump. I have included the link for the saginaw style brackets for a 69 and up from megaparts, but make sure on fitment as it's only a suggestion as to what you have from the pic.

Ok so you got the wrong radiator, now have to get a different water pump (or already got one), now have to change the PS pump.... seems like just getting the right radiator would be a much simpler solution. I mean this is like buying the wrong wheels and then changing the axles to make them work... Just saying.

Get a bracket for the PS pump to relocate it. Call Tony's parts. You'll need to get the proper size belt to make it work.

Check 440 source for power steering brackets I believe they sell them
