I received a new throttle cable and installed it in the Belvedere. I have an issue that I think is an easy fix. The throttle cable is hooked to the pedal through the hole in the accelerator assembly. (As seen in pics 1 and 2)

Then it is bolted on the bracket attached to the intake manifold and attached to the carb(a seen in pic 3).

Picture 2 shows the roller part of the accelerator assembly and where it sits when all is hooked up. it is about an inch from the accelerator pedal. How do I adjust that to where the accelerator pedal has tension on it as it should!

Thank you in advance.

Eli

Loosen the nut circled in red. Pull the cable back towards the firewall "Blue arrows" and then tighten the nut back down. Pull it back just until it starts moving the throttle linkage then stop and tighten it down.

If the accelerator pedal is 1" from the throttle linkage would it not require the cable to be moved (in the engine compartment) toward the front of the car instead of toward the firewall? In figure 2, where the cable is attached to that "I" piece, it would move that "I" piece closer to the left and the linkage near the pedal would move to the right and upward - coming to the accelerator pedal. Would like your thoughts.

Thanks.

That is a lot of slack, if you cant adjust so that you have full throttle travel on the carb when the pedal is floored, then you need a shorter throttle cable.
To get the correct length T-cable can be tricky, i went through four different lengths to find one that fit perfect. (Adjusting sleeve center at nut on throttle cable bracket.) Both the cable and the cable cover needs to be correct length.
Used a big stone to floor the pedal while working in the engine comp. :)

Thank you your reply. Had a chance to work with a friend on the throttle problem with the accelerator cable. Replaced it with one from Year One that was the same length 20 1/8" for a 1970 b body with a 318 V8. While taking it apart, we discovered that the retaining clip into the passenger compartment had slipped, and was not in the correct place by the metal piece about 1 1/4" with a collar but rather in the sheathing (that meant the accelerator cable to the carburetor would need to move further beyond the connection by about 3 1/4" toward the front of the car). That explained the accelerator pedal being very close to the floor, and not at the correct position I remembered of being much more upright in position. Once all was connected (the carburetor, and the cable into the passenger compartment), the accelerator pedal was in the correct position with the connection high up on the pedal. Be real careful with the interior clip, since it is easy to drop it into the floor board. That happened twice, and it was difficult to retrieve. It required pulling up the floor mat and insulation.
