727 fluid??

Wow just wow.. once again I am amazed at how simple these classic machines are. I was cruising the car this evening and after a while began to have the same issues with the tranny having a hard time engaging into third gear. I got home and parked and was again frustrated by the issue. I know that the kickdown linkage has a large part in the transmission working properly. So I decided to try to adjust it again by going one turn at a time on the throttle rod. After I shortened the rod three turns the problem seemed to go away and the car just drives completely different as far as acceleration. Got on the freeway and it was a joy just how it was running. I pulled over at a gas station thinking that I if shortened it more I may just get better results, but that was not the case. With just two more clockwise turns I began to have issues going past 30. So, I went back to only the three turns I had initially, and boom a joy to drive again. It’s amazing how just those three little turns changed the car. I even punched it at the light and made the tires squeal.

Just be careful as if you loosen the trans throttle pressure to much it will start slipping some between shifts and can hurt the trans. Just be sure on normal driving it does not flare any between shifts. Ron

A properly running performance built big block 727 is a thing of beauty. Almost makes me forget about changing to a 4 speed... Almost.

I just added Decron III to my 727. But I hate it. It has slipped the 2-3 shift since I got it. And it locks up in first gear if you put it into the 1 position. I like the 18 spline 4-speeds a little more!

What do you mean by 'locks up in first gear'? Once in first, it won't shift to a higher gear?

It actually locks up while you are rolling. As if you slammed the brakes on. It seems like it’s fighting itself and in reverse and drive!
