70 Coronet - Rebuild

Spent some time yesterday after golfing to get some interior trim pieces installed. Got A pillar trim, rear view mirror, kick panels and door panels put in. Need to clean and paint sun visor mounting brackets before assembling to new vinyl visors.

My brother helped me big time again tonight to get hood put on and adjusted. All the gaps look good thankfully.

Only 4 days left to get her done…….

Took the car out for test drive tonight to gas station. Found big fuel leak coming from sending unit area. Seal must be misaligned or bad. Hopefully I can get that fixed tomorrow night.

Car rode really smooth and shifted nice. Just need to get it aligned as soon as I can.

Here’s a fresh full body pic I took before I put it away for the evening.

That is such a high stress moment when you take the car with the new tank and fuel system and slide that fuel nozzle into the filler neck. I did that on the belvedere and laid on the ground just waiting for the leak to spring. But none came. It's never a sure thing. You'll get it this time around. Get the wrench they sell on ebay for putting the lock ring in.

Man! That's one good looking car!!

Thanks all. Figured out what was causing fuel leak, it’s cause I’m a dumb ***. Crawled under car tonight to find that I never capped off return fuel line nipple on sending unit. Easy fix, but a dumb *** mistake on my part.

I also looked into why I didn’t have brake lights now. After a lengthy troubleshooting period, we found that original turn signal switch in column went bad. Wasn’t getting power to green wire now for whatever reason. It worked earlier, but not now. Had to tear down steering column enough to remove switch and harness and fish the replacement in, but it works now. Fortunately we had a spare that still worked from a parts car we bought some years ago. I still need to reassemble the rest of the column and reattach to dash, but I’ll finish that tomorrow.

Assuming no other gremlins arise between now and Saturday, I should be able to drive it to car show. As DLA said above, Woohoo!!!

Perfectly understandable mistake. Since we are confessing things we forgot to do during reassembly, I've got a doozy. Forgot the AC/Defrost section of ductwork while installing the refurbished Dash! Was in such a hurry getting it back together in time for Carlisle, that I completely missed it. Plus I didn't even notice until I got back, dohhhhhh. Oh well, my AC/Heater isn't functional yet anyhow...

Got some fresh pics of the car after washing.

Sweet! I've always thought the 70 looked best with the double hood scoop set up, just looks right on that body.

Thanks Virg. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I did pick up a power bulge hood that needs some work as it has its share of dents, but can be repaired and used as a swap out down the road if I wanted.

Yup, the power bulge does look good...the scoops look aggressive, and they kind of remind of the air intakes for the superchargers on a P-38 (WWII aircraft). Anyhoo, one hell of a car!
