33yo LASD officer dies in a 1965 427 Cobra

I won't ride in a car without a seat belt. Was in a 10/15 mph head on collision came within a couple of inches of the windshield. Once I got in my car put my seat belt on, friend said "we're only going across the parking lot". It's instinctive, I do it without thinking.

I still like the old belts that you could tighten as far you could go.

There is a guy here locally who has built quite a few. I have talked with him at a show or two.. He uses Roush motors and they are pretty impressive if not spendy.. Install them, hook up the battery, fill with gas and start.. Not a bad way to do a crate motor

Yeah, you have to be cautious about labeling certain cars as dangerous. They are just like guns or knives - a tool so to speak, that has no will of its own to harm or damage anything. It takes a human to misuse or abuse it.

It's odd....I grew up with us kids clamoring all over the family truckster whilst going down the road.
Parents didn't wear belts, either....nor did I when I was the driver.
I'd only occasionally wear a belt when riding with someone else - some of whom back in the day took
that as an insult, like you were making a statement of distrust in their driving ability. :)

Thinking back now, it may have been the first time I ever rode in a pretty seriously built '66 Charger
with a hemi and 4-speed at a national meet. The car was serious, the driver known to be a little
crazy - but when offered the ride, I jumped at the chance.
It literally was a "get in, sit down, belt up, shut up and hang on" ride.
Nowadays? Still weird - I wear belts in cars but very seldom do in pickup trucks.
Odd...no idea why that's comfortable for me.

We didn't own a car with seat belts until 64 2 years after that accident. Friends insulted by you wearing seat belt, to bad. A friend showing off in his Jensen-Healy with me in the car. Showing how great it handled through an S curve at 70mph on a narrow road. Made the first turn but did a (seemed like it) a slow motion spin out. I'm watching these 6" trees on my side going by,OH ****. To my friends credit he let it spin. We end up going in the other direction and half on a guys lawn. He said I made these turns the other day with this girl in the car. I reminded him I weigh 210 lbs and she was 120 lbs. Seat belt wouldn't help with the trees though. He had to replace a bend axle, we hit a small as we went on to the lawn.

That's true, but there are some tools that can be inherently difficult to use properly, especially by certain people. Ever seen a 12 gauge knock a young lady on her ***, even though she is using it properly?
