I've always used Monroe Super 500 shocks. These can be found on the internet or EBay as NOS. These shocks were developed for NASCAR use in racing applications. The shocks have a larger bore (1-3/8") with a larger diameter piston rod and have a higher viscosity fluid and a tighter valve arrangement and they really provide a stiff ride. Others like KYB, Koni, or ???? I guess it depends on your preference, availablity, and cost.

I had KYB's on my '68 Charger with a fresh restoration. That thing rode like a backboard. I went with Bilsteins and they made a world of difference.

Thanks guys. What brand was used originally from the factory?

$25 Monroes... rides just fine. ( I painted them Black... from Blue)

Back in the day, they were 2 dollar shocks and didn't last very long. I replaced the original front shocks on my 95 Dakota about 3 years ago only because the rubber bushings went away and the shocks themselves were still pretty decent. I replaced them with Monroes that were one step up from the bottom and well, should have went to the 3rd step up lol. Bilsteins went on my 97 diesel and I really like them....the ones they replaced were also original and the bushings went away. Shocks on the 60's cars didn't last long and I usually replaced with the Monroe 500's before the gas shocks came out. Shockwarehouse.com is where I buy from these days. Check prices and go from there.

These look nice as well. Research continues!

Depends on your budget. Cheap gas shocks start at $30 pair and go up. Original shocks were oil, not gas. Supposedly, the cars before the 80s were designed for oil shocks.

Oil shocks like QA1 and RideTech, and Bilstein (gas/oil?) Start at $100 each but most buyers say they provide the best ride.

Shop RockAuto.com for the best prices on gas shocks.

Exactly what I put on the Bee and the Bird. Work just fine for normal cruising. Now if you want to motorcross the thing....
Or even want to drive it hard on street cornering...... :D

For the most part will just be street cruising, occasional street race, and highway from time to time.

I ordered a set of these for my Charger about a year back. Two of them were leaking oil right out of the box. The method of welding the eye on the fronts were pathetic Chinesium. When I called Summit to discuss the issues, I suggested they should not even sell these. They refunded my purchase and did not even want them back.
