Looking to get a parts washing cabinet

If you want a nice domestic unit, state makes one. (Pretty sure that’s the brand)

If you don’t mind a chink one, hazard fraught has one for a little over a hundred bucks

I have an ATD, gotta be 25 years old now. Good units.

I’ve got an old Safety Kleen parts washer, has worked great for 35+ years now. Just a barrel with a tub on top, pump’s in the barrel, I use a flow through brush. I just changed the solvent in it a couple of weeks ago, about 5 gallons is enough. Also has a light that comes on with the pump. It’s big enough for cranks, cylinder heads, etc…

If you want the 20 gallon that everyone sells, tractor supply was apparently closing them out... Go on line, check the price at each store, they were down to $39... works fine with 10 gallons of solvent.. 302 crank fit with LOTS of room so spare

By "Parts washing cabinet" are you referring to a solvent tank? Or a powered parts washer like

Cause the latter is a nice thing to have but hard to justify for a home shop....

You may find one large enough to wash a crank in but a lot of reviews on new parts washers indicate they may not support the weight. I'm talking about the kind like the one I bought on close out from Tractor Supply last year. It is self contained with a tray above the solvent. It's too flimsy for a crank. Maybe consider one like the old Safety Kleen professional shops used with a tub on top of the reservoir/stand.

Also, some are not made for petroleum solvents but use the weaker water based cleaners/degreasers.

If it's just a one time deal you could use a pressure washer and automotive degreaser. Or take it to the car wash.

Just wait until Submit goes shopping and use the dishwasher....

Recommendations.....Don't tell her about what you did.
Seriously now....I did some work at a large Diesel truck shop a few years ago. They had what I can only describe as a large industrial dishwasher - for parts.
Probably about 8 feet square (8'x8') and about 3 feet tall. Hot/boiling water if required, and an agitator with perforated steel trays etc inside. Diesel takes a lot of cleaning....and it worked quite well.

My buddy Cliff on the other hand has a part washer which is probably more like the Harbour Fraught ones....with a pump and drain with decent sized reservoir. A brush and some light, and it cleans stuff up nice. I use it all the time when I'm working on things at his shop.

Here's a couple from Eastwood. one is 20 gallons & the other is 40.

I would think that 20 gallons would be enough for home use. Thoughts?
If I were you, I would go for the 40 gallon unit - remember, you don't have to fill it with 40 gallons. You will appreciate the extra length when the crank is washed as an example. For the extra $50, it's really a no-brainer. :D

Go for the 40 gallon. It's thicker gauge steel, it's large enough for a crank, and it's in stock now.

Did you factor in the cost of solvent? Can you use petroleum based solvent?

I use mineral spirits in my 20 gallon/12 gallon solvent capacity tank with 5 gallons of solvent. Even though the user manual says to use water based cleaners. Most people don't like the water based cleaners compared to the petroleum based cleaners.

Amazon has the flow through brush if you need it.

Unless the solvent based cleaner has a petroleum based soap it won't clean as water based cleaner with soap.

I have an 8' Fiberglas sink that was used in a ceramic shop, center drain 18" deep and it can hold a rear end. Electric fuel pump and hose.
