Ruined my car (temporarily)

Thanks for all the replies and advice guys. I'll see what I can come up with, noting availability and pricing. Flowmasters are easy to get here in Australia (but I don't want them), as are the Hooker Aero Chambers linked above. They were actually on my shortlist before I made the boo-boo with the Glasspacks. I have no idea what they sound like though - you can watch a hundred Youtube videos and still not know what any muffler really sounds like, especially in the car which is the most important part. The Aero Chambers are in stock though in Australia which is a huge plus (for timing and for shipping costs), but they are chambered and not turbo style so I'm assuming will be loud? I'll also talk to the muffler guy on Monday - he's very old school and may have something generic that fits the bill and won't break the bank.

I've now got 3 videos of my car taking off with the old mufflers no H-pipe, old mufflers with H-pipe, and the Glasspacks no H-pipe. The Glasspacks sound fantastic on the video - I'll try to post them later - but it's evident that videos v real world are 2 different things.
I agree, you can not tell by a you tube video how that car really sounds, let alone how his mufflers will sound like on your car.
I have run 50 series "big block" flowmasters, and I love em, but mine don't drone, I think because they are so huge.
I also ran hooker aero's. I didn't care for the sound at first, but by the time I got used to the fact that they didn't sound like flowmasters, even though they are a chambered muffler too, I really liked how they sound.
I think I may adapt the aero's to my 62, in place of the Flowmaster system, to see if I can save 50 lbs or so.

That is true, now...a few years back turbos were the only thing with their kits... I just ordered a full TTI exhaust for my 68 coronet and sourced my own Ultra Flo mufflers from summit. The ones from TTI are modified to fit several vehicles. If you order the right ones yourself they bolt right in no problems!

See I ordered the longest ultraflo they made and they were still a bit short on my Charger. I am going to order the 19" cases and weld some pipe to them to make them the true 27" muffler that the kit was designed to use with. I believe the only muffler they offer is the 25" overall muffler which was short for me and fit kinda crappy. I wish they made the same dimension muffler in the super turbo and the ultraflo and don't know why they made them close but not identical.

But they do! At least in my case. TTI gives the specs of the turbos used in their kit, I went on dynomax website and found the ultra flo in the same dimensions....p/n 17513 .... everything fit like a glove. Didn't think the charger would be any different, aren't they the same exhaust kits for all other 68-70 B bodies?

My car uses a 27" Dynomax super turbo supplied in the kit and the Dynomax P/N you gave me is a 25" overall length. They fit, but just not into the pipe far enough to hold the weight of my 3" system atleast on my car. They should both be 27" overall length or 25" length......I don't know why they made them 2" shorter on the ultraflo. I might be able to get the extra pipe length by messing with the collector and cheating it out a bit there, but its been together for quite awhile in years time wise, so its pretty stuck where it is with the clamps tight. I find it'll be easier to just add pipe to the short muffler style and call it a day. The problem using the 3" system being its VERY tight around the axle tubes an gas tank, so you are forced to keep the pipe in a very certain position, so moving it around a ton isn't an option like the 2.5" kits and smaller.

Now I see they offer a 25" and a 29" but no 27"???? Pisses me off somewhat as I'd love to swap em out to the ultra flos like my other 2 cars have.

Thats crazy, I wonder why they require a longer muffler on your kit? ... what year is the car? .. when I was ordering the kit I was talking with TTI about mufflers. They said if I source my own it would require modification to work with their kit. I gave the person the p/n of the muffler I was going to use and the response was "well damn its identical to the super turbos we supply" ... then said they buy the shortest ultra flo from dynomax and add pipe to each one to make it fit each specific kit, easier then figuring out which one to use without having to modify I guess.....took me 5 min to match ultra flo dimensions to the turbos the use! Did the same thing on my 70 swinger 8yrs ago!

The tailpipe exit on the new exhuast looks much better.
I recommend the hemi mufflers I had them on my Charger for a couple years until I blew them to smitherenes one day.
They were excellent.
They must have been exhausted!

Maybe get a 29" and hack 1" off each end? Should still have plenty left to clamp...I would think!

I like a stepped band clamp. You can take it apart anytime.

Like I said tey use a 27" super turbo and I could probably et by with the 25" if I had new pipes, but min are all clamped and creased together, so I'd rather buy the 19" and add pipe. The ultra flos give you less area for the clamping portion of pipe to slide into as it is so the extra couple inches wouldn't work. I'd wanna do the shorter route. Soon once my Runner is finally assembled but for no the super turbos are ok. Both my cars are 68's.

Update: I've driven the car only 3 times in the last week but the sound is growing on me! I don't know whether it's the new pipes and mufflers getting some carbon in them, or I'm getting used to it, but I quite like it now probably 75% of the time. There's still the annoying drone, and I'm concerned about the overall volume making me deaf at a 3,000 rpm cruise, but I'm thinking of adding a H-pipe first and seeing how I go. I really don't want to spend more money if I don't have to (shame I parked in front of a big tree, would have been a decent photo).

Check out one of the latest Engine masters they tested
a bunch of mufflers & with 1000+hp Blown BBC 'Freibergers'
for DB/sound & performance
the winner was Flowmasters
4" 30's series of all things,
(way louder than the Muscle Car Delta Flow 50 series, in 3")
for flow/hp vs sound, only less the 7hp difference
between best & worst
then the straight thru, at 7,500rpm @ 1,100hp
Flowmasters tested were/are quite a bit quieter DB levels
thur 8' straight 4" pipes after the headers
&
some cheap 'Chinese' Hookers chambered mufflers
that are/were way too loud, made the most HP

I've had great luck with Flowmasters,
for over 40 years
I have the 3" mandrel-bent muscle car header back kit
Delta Flow 50 series on my car now, since 2005
it had some Hemi Muffler straight thru 'knock offs'
sounded like tin fucken' cans
I hated them
other than the weight & size, the Flowmasters do work great
no drone, not too loud, nice tone too
I have extremely good hearing, so it would drive me nuts if it droned
you can always add silencers resonators,
on either side of the fuel tank in the rear tailpipes
like the old Hemi exhaust systems had too
it's too quite for my taste

Muscle car with any real power
is supposed to be a lil' obnoxious

Also where the H-pipe or X-pipe is mounted/installed
usually too far rearward
& especially the proper size of tubing, all helps
too big of tubes diameter usually causes the resonance
"drone"
cause & effect of stalling the airflow
especially if you don't have enough motor
don't to go too big of pipes, that caused/causes,
that 'self-induced drone', from poor choices
everyone seems to bitch & moan about

good luck whatever you choose

Final update: car is fixed!
The exhaust was getting progressively quieter the more I drove the car and 2 weeks ago I nearly had the H pipe fitted (drove to the exhaust shop but then decided it was ok without). Then last week I went for a drive and felt it was still too loud, so went back there a few days back and got the H pipe installed.
Sounds great now, old school, and the H pipe has tightened up the note. Glad I can put that to bed and move on to the next thing (stroker).

Had a new 2.5" exhaust system fitted this week, got the car back today. The old system was a mix of 2.25" and 2
5", hung too low from the diff back and was a dog's breakfast. Anyway, I had some new mufflers fitted at the same time, Thrush Glasspacks (the long 23" ones) to replace the no-name muffler shop ones (which actually sounded ok). WOW! What a noise (and not a very nice one).
It sounds great at idle but wide open throttle it's ear splitting and not a particularly nice sound. In fact, I hate it! I've had glasspacks before and loved them but I guess 25 years of maturity makes a big difference to one's tastes.
Thankfully he did a great job on the rest of the system, so just more money down the drain for some new (quieter) mufflers asap. Any recommendations for something quiet that also sounds good? I'm not driving it again until I get it fixed, it's that bad.

Flowmaster Delta 40's all kinds of lengths, widths, and diameters. Not as loud as you think or WILL be told.

I know that some dislike (hate!) them, but Flowmaster 40's?
I like those also but the Delta 40's are a bit quieter. First day on car drove by ever police station in the area. Never even got a odd look from anyone.

I didn't like the ultra flows. Swapped them for the super turbos. Listen for yourself. Turn up the volume.
