Just spoke to the shop foreman a few minutes ago. This car has been in this shop for going on 2 years now, and almost to completion. I can't believe my misfortune...The owners decided to sell out and retire. Gave no one notice including employees. New owners said project cars now must go. I have paid above and beyond original quote for additional stuff and changes, and such. Somewhere around $40k+. I am in Kansas City and I already know a reputable shop is gonna be tied up for at least 2 years or so before there's openings. Should I take these people to court? Would I have a leg to stand on? Do courts even care about these situations in this day and age? I am open to suggestions and information that can help lead me into making progress on finding a solution to this heartbreaking news. This is just a shock, and right now i'm literally dumbfounded, and numb. If I sell with all documentation, i'm not taking less than what is already invested, so I guess that's not an option. I dunno. I know there's some of you that have dealt with a similar situation. If so, please share some real wisdom? TIA

It's Friday, above all else. Just can't win sometimes. I spent 2 months last Winter remodeling my garage just to make preparations for it to come home this year.

Get car and dont leave the Fender Tag behind....Too many Tags lost in these type of cases....

........and all parts before they are lost, stolen or sold.

Make sure all your parts for the car are still there. I have heard horrifying stories of shops selling off customers' parts, trying to stay afloat.

OMG!!! Your killing meee!! Now i'm gonna be stressing all weekend over this whole situation.

You wrote "Almost to completion". How far along is the car exactly?

All above.. Get your stuff.

Lost a Hudson to the same crap... couldn't do anything legally because there was nothing to go after.....
Another option is when you are picking it up talk to the eager young guys and have them come to your shop and do it at your house.

Interior is almost finished being reassembled. Last time I was there It had the soundproofing, all new window glass, vinyl top, headliner in, chrome was going on, was working on the dash and installing a new heater core and AC condenser or whatever goes under the dash. Grill assembly still needed gone through, and seats. Then that was it besides the drivetrain.

I would call the sheriff and see if they will go with you to get it.

As stated, first get your car, any parts, and if you can, any materials you paid for. Getting any money back will depend on what you and the shop agreed to, and especially what you have in writing.

Exactly, nothing in writing then don't even bother (don't bother with lawyer if no contract)

And I would do it first thing tomorrow.
There's a reason ******** do this stuff on Friday afternoon.

Call a tow company NOW. Have them meet you at said location when they open the doors tomorrow morning

Get all your car and parts out. THEN deal with any litigation

After you get back your stuff, I would tell you what you should do but it's illegal

I have my contract all inclusive. Paid receipts for all monies forwarded. Everything is dated. I have it all in my file folder. I keep track of expenditures as large as this.

GET YOUR CAR NOW! Get any and all parts that are there and not on it. Get everything that is yours RIGHT AWAY. Then maybe put a lien on there business after you have all your stuff, otherwise, unfortunately, you’ll probably end up getting screwed. Sorry…
