Asking for a friend, no really I'm asking for a friend LoL.

1967 GTX, he wants to know what's the biggest tire/wheel combo that can be stuffed in the rear wheel wells without doing any mods. 15" is the preferred wheel size. So what's the rim width, back spacing, tire size?

Thanks

I have 275/60/15s on15x8 polished torque thrust with custom 5inch backspace with no other mods on my 66 satellite and they fit perfect no rubbing at all.

Using @moparick example above, I did a quick search and most 15x8 n 15x7 that I could find come w max 4.5" backspace. As he said his are 5" custom. So using readily available 4.5" BS, would require 1" of width on tire to be removed to avoid rubbing the outer fender well. That would be between a 245 and 255 series tire.

Where do you get custom 5" backspace made wheels?

American racing has a custom shop. You can get pretty much anything you want, within reason. I ordered a pair of 15x12 TT2 with 3 1/2 bs, the least bs they would make.
Like anything custom, they wont be cheap.
(The original centerline autodrags had 15x8 1/2s available with 3 5/16, or 4 7/8 bs. My 4 7/8s fit fine on my 69 runner, but need a 3/8 spacer on my 62. Using a big tire, 10.5x28 slick.) I have no idea if the "new" centerlines are available with that bs.

I did the same, ordering mine

through summit when I specified a 5 1/4" back space for my 67.. Seems like I got free shipping by ordering through summit.. No problems,

Nice ride, what are the specs on your wheels and tires?
Rear: 15 x 8 with 5 1/4" BS... I would order 5 1/8" BS the next time..
Front 15 X 7.. I cant remember BS? It was 4" or 3 3/4.. Not as critical as the rear..
I have 245-60's on the rear.. Largest tire I could get in without wheel well problems.. I see people on here all the time claiming they have 275's and the only thing I can figure is they are "downhill" cars.. My car does sit fairly low
If I jack up the rear of the car, from the third member ( rear end) I cannot get my wheel off.. The jack has to be on the "frame" to get enough clearance to remove the wheel...

Could you tell me if you got that correct backspace for your car on the first try, or did you try different backspace wheels previously ? Thanks.

Where do you get custom 5" backspace made wheels?
Cragar has a custom shop and will make custom backspace rims on their 4 most popular wheels. Pretty sure Torque Thrust still does the same as well.

I believe Cragar's custom shop is closed at the moment.
Just checked and you are correct. I have had them make me 4 sets, the most recent was last winter. I suppose they can't get enough people to work just like every other business right now.

As far as I can tell American Racing's custom shop is open (torque thrusts). I bought my customs prior to covid dempanic however.
If you are interested, give them a phone call, speak to a human.
