I’ve wanted an M1 Garand for a long time now. I’m not a gun collector, but I appreciate a nice gun. I’ve got a 1911 and a .22 pistol.

my Grandfather was a WW2 vet and had a Springfield Armory M1 Garand.

a friend of mine is a military rifle collector. I put him on the lookout for a decent quality Garand. (These things aren’t 500 bucks anymore)

Today, he was set up at a local gun show, and he found me a nice example.

It’s a Harrington & Richardson from the Korean was era. I’m told it has all H&R parts and it looks like it’s in nice shape.

I’m picking it up later. I hope I got a good one. :elmer:

here’s the pics he sent me:

Very nice!

Got close to getting one that my BIL had but he decided to give his son another chance at not forking him over....again for the unpteenth time....and flipped it and didn't even ask his uncle (me :D) if I was interested in it. Oh well. That was when I still had money so now it won't matter but if I was able to get it back then, ain't no way I'd sell it!! Congrats on the buy and hope it's a good one too....

The DCM, Department of Civilian Marksmanship, has no Garands on hand. They had a warning about modern ammo limits with Garands.

I left an auction sale expecting the original and mint IH Garand to sell for more than I could afford. Five years ago, it brought $1,000 which was top of the market, but it was so original, and so pretty. I would have been interested at that range of pricing. Internationals of all types sell cheaper. It came from a collection that had 200-500 guns each, for three sales. I got some very cool field photos from WWII. Graphic South Pacific stuff. He had Custer camp digging artifacts somebody dug up 75 years ago. They were hanging on his wall and I should have bought. They had cutlery, shell casings, coins, and such. $250 for 12-15 pieces in a small case.

Very nice! With firearms it's all about condition. That one appears to be in very good condition. Have fun with it 30-06 ammo is still plentiful but more expensive now. 440'

That's a steal!! I see them going for 2300-2500 in that similar condition.
Are you aware of using too high of a grain 30-06 ammo?

Dear CMP Family,

The CMP advises to not use .30/06 ammunition in M1 Garands, 1903s, and 1903A3s that is loaded beyond 50,000 CUP and has a bullet weight more than 172-174gr. These rifles are at least 70 years old and were not designed for max loads and super heavy bullets. Always wear hearing and eye protection when firing an M1 Garand, 1903 and/or 1903A3 rifle.

One of my local shops just got in a large shipment of ammo suitable for the M1 Garand. I believe it sold out in a day.

Actually they do, a few anyways on auction.
Field Grade quality starts at $1600 currently. Nice ones? $3k easy.
I'm another that missed the boat on M1 ownership and it's priced out of my world now,
so I'm quite envious of the OP's. Congrats!
