My tawny gold 71 GTX needs a whole new interior. My question is how wrong is it to change from its factory gold to black?

I agree with @70chall440 , but the nostalgia Side of me asks is it numbers matching now…close to it?? If so it would Give me pause.. so nice when they look like the day they rolled out!!

I battle with mine over this all the time … and all the Resto mod gear heads I know … either way it will look great

Everything that's gold needs to be changed to black.

I like the gold, it sets it apart. Colored interior has some character. Too many black interiors.

I agree with R413. Far too many black interiors. I will not buy a new Mopar with Black or Gray interiors, and hate that a PO painted my 72 Sebring Plus Light Gold interior with black paint. My 74 Charger has green, and 64 Convertible Fury is Red. 71 Fury Gran Coupe is Paisley/Brown and the 64 Barracuda that was gold, was painted black before I got it. Newer Mopars are all Tan Leather... Keep it Gold.

My Coronet had no fender tag, and was only a 318/904, so that gave me the freedom to change whatever I wanted... at least in MY mind. Among these was changing the blue interior to black. However, a numbers-matching GTX may be a different story. I love the black.

It’s your car. You have to live with it. Do it the way that makes you happy. Who cares about some future owner.

Gold is generally the most expensive color for repro interior parts.

IIRC Legendary seat covers in gold are about triple the cost of other colors.

That being said, I think gold looks good with that exterior color, and as noted above, adds character.

Now, black with gold inserts.......

If you care more about what other people think go original ,or go with what makes you happy when you open the door, look at my cars , they are the original color but thats about it

Beautiful car

I thought about or wanted to change my Bee to a houndstooth interior
Not cheap either

Gold

And I won't say more but attach a pic of one of my Fav Chargers around with same/similar ext/int combo... but tomorrow. Is late now here in Spain to turn on my compute. On bed at this moment LOL.

I changed my seats covers to hounds tooth.
The rear covers from Legendary were $800 US.
I already had the front seats.

Agreed......
I like interiors in colors.

Black is boring to me anymore.

BUT......Its YOUR car.
Im all about pleasing ones self first.

Maybe the next guy can worry about putting it back to OE stock.

Looks nice 71Beep,I would have to have Legendary custom make a front seat cover for the highback bench seat in my car $$$$.,I have a rear seat & buckets in hounds tooth, the buckets are beat but I think the rears will clean up I hope.

I might be a little biased but I like the gold. If you do change colors, please don’t paint the dash pad. It took me 4 years to find a good gold dash pad. Get a black one and change it. Save the gold pad in case you ever want to go back to gold.
