I'm installing an Edlebrock performer manifold, 318, and the fel-pro gaskets blocks the heat crossover passage, which is ok with me. But will that gasket hold up? Seems to me that gasket will blow out. Is there a good way to block the port, I saw someone weld it shut in the head, I see Edelbrock plugs that go into the intake manifold, but those seem to be for big blocks.

Suggestions?

Where did you see the intake manifold plugs available ? I could use some for my 383, Thanks...

I think FelPro still makes the blocked passage trays for a 383. Used those on my 440's for many years.

You can also just slide a small piece of stainless steel in there with the plain gasket. I've done that too with good success.

Yes, I have one, but would like to back it up, with the plugs. I would weld them closed, but the intake is already painted to match the engine...

It will burn through, as will any metal that's too thin(been there!). For your application--a 318 w/standard Performer intake-- I would just get gaskets that have the crossover ports open and save a lot of hassle...it won't hurt to let it work as designed.
The problem I have with my 383, stock intake, is the heat passage burns the paint off of it. Also, with the cheap ethanol gas, I seem to have more issues with vapor lock, or the gas evaporating so quickly, it re-starts very hard after running it on Hot Summer days. I was hoping this would help also...

If you want your thin plate to last, some insulation in the heads may help. Maybe wrap it in HD foil like the vibration pad under a stock BB ..........

I recently plugged a cracked (failed repair) CH4B cross over with thicker plates cut out of a cheap grade stainless handy box cover......

I just used a burr to make the recesses for the plugs.

I have melted down one set of raped headers and the FelPro block off plate is still holding up just fine. if you want to fill the intake passage use spray fire foam. Used mainly as fire break in building construction.

Where does one find a small piece of stainless steel?

Very long time ago, think I cut up a thin paint scrapper. Worked fine for a couple hundred runs. Then Felpro started selling the blocked tray. Used those on all my single four manifolds for years, at least several hundred runs on each tray, never a problem. Of course the tunnel rams were cast as blocked off.
