I have insomnia real bad. I have a tv in my room that connects with YouTube. I had tried listening to relaxing talk downs, thunderstorms, and waves. That helped some but not a lot. Then I started listening to audiobooks and that was okay until I found this. Books are being played by authors that are theoretical physicists. Guys like Stephen Hawking and Michio Kaku. It's enough to keep my mind on the subject and not drift off into thinking about something else. I wake up not realizing I had slept.
 
Greetings fellow sufferer. I've been experiencing
bouts of insomnia for quite some time, as evidenced from my posting times.
Your body has a clock. Though your mind may
say you've got to be in bed by ten, your body
is telling you something entirely different.
There are many emotional and physical
influences that influence your sleep cycle.
I'm retired, but use to a regulated time cycle
of twelve on twelve off. Music, calming sounds,
alcohol, are not going to help. Listen to. your
body.. Your "clock" will become apparent..
What will be, will be.
 
Took me a long time to keep my brain turned off at night. Even last night at 4:36 am ...I had to turn it off. Sunday used to be really bad, I quit drinking on Sundays 4 or so years ago and that helped. Any other day I can drink and sleep....but Sunday.
 
I have found that insomnia usually results from a lifestyle that is too sedate. If you don't tire your body and mind it does not need to rest. Unfortunately as we get old it is typical to rest more during the day and your body can't shutdown at night. Normal but it sucks.

work hard , no naps , eat a full home cooked supper.
Sleep after the late news.
 
I sit up nights wondering what the word insomnia means.

Other than that I get 4 hours sleep a night, regardless of how tired I am. I fall asleep immediately but wake up 4 hours later. In bed at midnight, wake up at 4 am. In bed at 1am wake up at 5am. It's uncanny. My doctor says it comes with getting old.
 
Fresh air and physical labor do it for me. If I'm just lounging around I can hardly keep my eyes open but then can't sleep at night. Also, late evening sugar intake keeps me up so no pop or candy after 8. I also knock off any work around 9, come in and clean up then either go on the computer or watch some tv - nothing that really keeps the brain working, so when I hit the sack I've calmed down and can get to sleep.
 
Haven’t slept a full night in years and often it’s worse when I’m thinking of the various projects I have going on or planned…the better ways to do it, tools to use, etc. I’ve had some ideas when hoping to get to sleep and grab my phone on the night stand and put them in so I don’t forget them. Then I start reading articles on the phone that doesn’t help. I’ve read that looking at your phone, tablet, kindle, is a bad thing to do, something about the light from them. One tip was using blue-tinted lenses (don’t know I haven’t tried it). I haven’t tried sleeping meds either – I’ve just let it go as a new situation getting old. Either way, I always get up around 6AM whether I’ve slept better or not.
 
I usually don't have trouble getting to sleep but with sinus and back issues I toss and turn all night. I don't get much quality sleep for sure. Last night I couldn't get to sleep. It happens every once in a while. I took a 10 mg melatonin and a Midnight sleep aid and it was still 2 am when I drifted off. I woke up at 5 when I heard the shower going across the hall. I see a nap in my Monday future.

Pretty much the same here.Then drift off after 30 minutes or so of watching the clock.

That helps me to get to sleep faster. I may stay asleep longer if I didn't have to piss 3 times a night.
I try not to drink anything after 6 PM sometimes it works, mostly not.

My brother told me he gets out of bed 5 times a night to pee. I said, 'you get out of bed?'
 
There are nights when my mind is busy all night long, either I’m working if on the car or working in the wood shop. When it gets really bad I end up on my phone or the computer doing searches for photos or videos having to do with projects I am working on. I have started taking Advil before I go to bed recently and it seems to help a little.

Interesting, and I believe this happens to most of us.
Many years ago I was building a 1943 Indian 741 Scout, and no matter how much I studied the manual I could not figure out how the clutch system worked. About 2 am I gave up and went to bed. About 5am I woke up and sudden knew just how it all went together. I rushed to the garage and assembled the clutch. My body had given up but my mind was still working on the problem.

My wife has a notepad on her nightstand. She wakes up in the middle of the night with a solution and writes it down.
 
Since my wife passed in January it's been hell to sleep well all night. Tried melatonin, benadryl nothing seems to help. Go to bed around 10pm, wake up at about 2am to pee, then the wheels start turning. Maybe an hour and a half or two, finally drift off. :BangHead:

I built a really nice router table last year and while the fence was good for general work it just didn’t have what was needed to do raised panel doors. I found myself up at all hours of the night looking for a really good fence and decided on a Woodpecker Super Fence. The fence finally arrived and has been installed but now I am waiting for a little warmer temperatures to try it out, in my mind I think I have made twenty sets of cabinet doors.

Sometimes I have worse nights than others and also have sinus issues.....sometimes prayer works for me. Helps to shut my mind down or at least put it more at ease.
