My GTX had been to the body shop and has all new metal and paint that looks amazing! Problem is, now they can’t find anyone to stand behind their work installing the new rear window gasket and and glass because “they’re known to leak”??? Is this really a thing?? Anybody else ever come upon this issue? They said they had three guys decline to touch it for this reason. Now The car is sitting in paint jail until they find someone to put in the glass. Seriously?

Not sure why you’re having a hard time. It’s a gasket that gets roped in. Gasket needs sealed to the body, then window in the gasket. This style of window gasket is very common for that era of car. Try to find a local shop that’s been around forever.

Known to leak because of a rusted window channel maybe. That story is a bit of a stretch.

If the glass man can’t use a tube of urethane they don’t want to touch it.

some will still use urethane on a gasket glass job.

Yeah - my guy put the glass in right but then without telling me he filled the channel between the rubber and the body. Wish I had scraped most of it out before it stiffened and I put the trim on - I’ll probably never get the window trim off it again.

I am sure sealing these old gasket sets is a lost art among most of the "new" people doing glass and body work today...
Setting the glass AND making sure it doesn't leak are two separate items
Old worn out hard gaskets and poor fitting repro's complicate matters...
Butyl sealant is the correct sealant to use with a rubber gasket set, use kerosene to clean the excess sealant off.......

I'm thinking it's a case of "new" glass people have an intolerance or allergy, to butyl.

my glass guy is good , im lucky cause no one can work properly he pulled it and resealed it its good now. we used the 3m sealer on it and worked well no water now in trunk. glass guys and alignment guys are hard to find. good luck

Installed my back glass , rope trick per FSM , warm gasket really well, use butyl., no big deal , two man job , bulky !

The part where the bodyshop or "glass guy" doesn't want to do their job.
