Always something - So I purchase this Vizio 65" monster TV for the home. I planned to mount it above the fireplace to a brick wall covered in plaster (1927 built house). I drilled into the BRICK after knocking away some plaster so I can actually see the brick I'm going into. Hammer drilled four 1/4" holes and used the proper Tapcon screws. They were nice and tight, difficult to drive in, but perfectly holding the wall plate to the wall. Great, right?
Well, one of the four screw holes on the back of the TV is stripped.
Now I'm wondering if I should try something at home, or drag this bitch back to the store for exchange. Or call it good with only three screws into TV. Did I mention it's large?
What say you?

Can you clean it up with a tap ? Can you substitute a "slightly" ( 1/16" ) larger screw ? Why is a new TV have a stripped hole ? The 3 would probably be sufficient, but I'd try to remedy the faulty hole.

It didn't feel like I was cross threading this, but apparently I F'ed up. It's integrity must not have been that good to begin with - in my defense.

Upper hole or lower? Upper is in tension... lower is just positioning side to side..
These are the four holes in the TV, not the plate's three screws that mount to wall bracket.
With those, there are three screws. One on top, and the bottom two are side to side adjustments.

My OCD would say , it will bee on the floor when I come home from work

Return it or exchange for another TV

Are open box TVs an easy exchange at the big box stores ?

I'd take it back if it's local. If you live in the boondocks like me i'd be tempted to tap it..

Agreed. If you can't easily tap it...swap it. Don't leave it on 3 screws.

Gravity is uncompromising.

IF you tap it, do it upside down so the shavings don't fall into the electronics.

"Hi, this TV has a stripped hole and I can't attach the mount"
"Sorry, sir you'll have to file a warranty claim and get a Return Authorization from the manufacturer"

Versus

"Hi, I want to return this"
"No problem sir, do you have your receipt?"

Use some tap in lead anchors and lag bolts, if you change it you can drill out the lead and patch over it. We use em all the time at work to hang screens.
