MSD Ignition Boxes

Hello,

I am considering an MSD ignition box for use on the street. Not a radical application - prolly a 500+ horsepower 493" with a mid range mechanical cam.

Back in the day I ran an MSD 6AL box. Now I see a couple of choices: the MSD 6AL, and the StreetFire. Both are multispark and include rev limiters. The former is $100 more than the latter.

Any thoughts on the differences between these two choices? Thanks.
 
I would stick with the 6AL. More spark energy that the Street Fire. That being said, the newer digital versions of the 6AL get some bad press though. I have a digital 6AL in my Ford F150, been there about 10000 miles without an issue. I have the older analog 6AL in my Charger, it has been there about 20 years without issue and I trigger it with points.
 
I am using the MSD 6AL Digital box on my 63 and its been working great. Been on my car over a year now and no problems at all and its working great. Ron

Got a whole 2 hours of run time on my 6425 6AL. Its been at MSD for a week, just waiting to find out how much more is this $350 box going to cost....
 
We run MSD 6AL and 7 AL/7C
The are the original USA made Analog Version NOT the new
Overseas made Digital Version.
Some of these have been on our race cars for 20 plus years with no issues.
The High Output Coils like the pro power are good for 5 years or so before
spark start deteriorating!

Never found any difference between the Analog and Digital in back to back testing.
However, we seldom get a year of service out of the new imported Digital without
issues.

I keep four or five new ones in the box in the trailer for last 10 or 15 years but have never needed to use one of the original American made ones.

Thanks for the info. My brother has run MSD analog units since the late 70's I believe. I was running the MP ign on my mild street/strip car until I got a deal on the MSD 6AL digital unit last year as I have always wanted to go to MSD when I had the money. I will say in all the years my brother has run MSD I only remember one unit going bad that he sent back and they repaired. So far the 6AL digital unit has been flawless in over a year so I hope it keeps working good as I am very happy with it. Ron

I love my 6btm on the Challenger.

I have a 6al2 programmable, but I'm probably going to run a Mag on my Charger just to be period
 
I've had a street fire for 6 or 7 years.
It works great.
