Thinking about putting big rims on my 65 coronet convertible but I am not sure where to start. Anyone have any advice?

Your rim diameter choice will probably be dictated by tire size choice, availability and pricing. Maybe 18's?

Or vice versa!!

Curious if anyone has started down this path and has turned up any solid numbers yet.

I was going to go 17's on my 65 but the size choices are not there for what I think I can fit in it. Thats what will get me into 18's. All still in the planning stages though, but 17's didn't work. Also the 18's will clear my Dr. Diff 13" stang brake package better.

Read the many threads here that have covered this topic, then measure your car to see what will fit.

Yup, been there, done that. Everything covers 15" rims. If you have more info than me, feel free to post a link...pretty please

I put 16's on my 64. Hardly can tell they aren't 15's.

Wheel Vintque's with 225 70 16

On my 65, I want to get at least a 285/35 up front, maybe even up to a 315. Depends on what I can swing and do wheel fitment. Backs will be minimum 315/35 or 40 and should have room for 335 or larger as I'll be doing mini tubs and spring re-location. None of those choices could be had in 17.

There is a "b-bodies with 17" wheels" thread, and another, same title, except 18"
There is even a thread with bigger wheels that asks owners to give tire and wheel sizes and backspace.

Hoosier and M/T both make drag radials in 315/35x17. Mickeys can be street R, or street SS. M&H makes a 325/45x17 drag radial.
As for "handling " tires, there must be something out there?!?

There are handling tires out there. When it gets to be time to start configuring, I'll dive into it more. I did buy one of the tools from Percy's so I can mock things up. I'm shooting for track events, autocross, fun drives on windy roads and some drag since Famosa is 2 hrs away. But mostly the twistys for me.
