I have a 71 road runner 440 six pack, that surges when cruising, does anyone have a suggestion on how to stop this problem?

Are you running an electric fuel pump at the tank? I do on mine and use the vapor return for pressure relief.

Could be many issues.

Did it just recently start? Happen all the time? Certain RPMs? Does it feel like losing power, then gaining back or gaining power then going back to normal?

I think I would start with basics - vacuum leaks, fuel.

Is this a problem that just developed or has it always been evident? I had a similar issue with a Hemi and it turned out to be the vacuum advance in the distributor. Check the vacuum connection, ported or non-ported. In my case, eliminating the vacuum advance and using strictly mechanical advance solved the annoyance. Although that solution is not for everyone.

I removed the lead plugs from both of my set ups and backed the idle screws out 1/4 turn. Then changed the squirter on the accelerator pump one size up, drilled out the metering plates, yellow springs, and changed the power valve. All of that info is in the DC manual. Both cars running a similar cam, Crane Fireball, and a similar Isky.

Good questions above. Some of the guys are thinking maybe "vapor lock" (common), but if it's happening now while you drive the car in Ontario, Canada.....i bet it's pretty cold there and not vapor lock for that reason. More information would help.

you really need to give more info for us to help.

too much cruise timing, lean, maybe old fuel that's lost volatility.

If it has vacuum advance, try plugging it and see if the surge goes away.

Mine does the same thing, ever so slightly. It doesn’t bother me, as it runs so well otherwise, and I’m the only one who even notices.

I think I found the problem, all three carbs are finger tight only!!!!!!! I went through and tightened the carbs hopefully that is the problem, will take it out for a test run tomorrow! Thanks everyone
