...when the non functioning a/c on your plow truck loses the clutch bearing and you don't want to reinvent the wheel to engineer a new belt routing from eliminating it?
Well add ANOTHER alternator!

I upgraded the stock 60 amp to the big frame 100 amp and added the 200 amp Leece-Neville where the smog pump was several years ago and eliminated any charging problems, the new 90 amp Denso is just showin' off :D

On one of my Porsche's (944 track demon) I had the same thing happen and killed the belt. In the garage, at Watkins Glen, I gutted the A/C condenser, and just ran it on the case bearings. I sold it that way a couple years later. No change of belt routing, uses stock belt. I do not know if that would have worked in your situation. I would say your solution is a good one !

I have this exact problem with my power wagon. I was thinking of getting an idler pulley and fab up some brackets to put in place of my also non working a/c comp. but I like this as well. Trying not to get into reworking the whole belt routing because of the $'s and it is just a farm truck.

If you want, I can take better pics of how I "fabbed" it in.

That would be fantastic. The shorter belt won't work on mine either as the water pump pulley is in the way of a direct belt from crankshaft to alternator and runs with other belts to the PS pump and idler pulley

I just made spacers to align it accordingly, if you have the standard alternator, you should line up with the outside grove on a 2 grove pulley, with the big one I had to shim it out to miss the head, so mine uses the inside, and just fab a stationery arm for the adjustment bracket hole since the factory alt. will do the belt tensioning. as far as a belt, I just took the old belt, cut it, wrapped it around the pulleys and cut it where it overlapped and took it to the local parts store for a measurement and perfect match.
Here's the "cute" alternator I used.

get the non a/c fan pully and shorter belt..that's what I did on my '86.

I’ve seen Dodge trucks of that era have a bracket and pulley setup right where the AC compressor is.
Pic from the interwebs.

lol man !!!!
thats your plow truck eyh....WoW no rust,no rot,what a Beautiful truck !!
there are people out here on the east coast that would pay Over ten grand for that truck....
the guys on my truck group would be throwing money at you....amazing condition !!

as far as the second alt,you could have also used a accessory pulley instead.
thats how most of the non ac ones are setup, with a stand and an accessory pulley.

I looked at the delete pulley and thought for a few extra bucks why not go with the alternator.
As a bonus, the big alts. need a few rpm's, where as the denso with it's small pulley charges right from idle, kinda' like a cure for "charging turbo lag" :D

Where did you find that picture ? I am doing a google search for non a/c chrysler truck pulley and can't find it. I can't zoom in on your picture to get a better look.
I have a 76 PW with a 400 engine. I just found an old double belt idler pulley I have that I might can use but may have to modify the bracket or make one.

it never hurts to have more juice when plowing! especially if your running blazer, bronco, ramcharger, heater, rear window defrost on constant, rear window up and down a bit to see when needed, lights, plow, heater, stereo!
at least with that dodge you don't need to worry about air bag waking you up!

The T440 I recently acquired had an idler pulley bolted to a chunk of 90* uni-strut. That was all bolted to the AC mount. Heres a few poor pics after I bent the assembly with a chain loading in into my truck.

I search ‘Lil Red Express engine’, then click on the images tab. Using Chrome.
