SAE tap & die set

Where can I get a decent AMERICAN made set from 1/8" up to 1/2". Not interested in a combination of SAE & metric.

Thanks!
Whichever set you decide to go with....make sure you use a quality lube on the threads when chasing or clearing out.

I use loads of this product here...

Yes, thread cleaning dies and taps do not oversize your holes or undersize your bolts like thread cutting dies and taps “can” do. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. I got a set from Eastwood about 30 years ago.

I was going to say I still have my old Craftsman set, but it's more like the Craftsman case with half the taps replaced.

I'd use it more to clean up threads & I did end up buying a set that was in post #16.

That thread chaser set looks identical to the one I got from I think Eastwood almost 30 years ago - just different placard and supplier info on it. It has served me well through several old cars.

Most T&D sets are made from high carbon steel. There are some that were done out of high speed steel, like drill bit material. Back in the early 80's, Craftsman of all places, had a set using high speed. I snagged that. I had access to Vermont and Ace/Hanson plus some others but they were just high carbon. For replacement taps I've been getting them through Amazon from Grizzly. Grizzly is a U.S. company that makes many different tools. I found them through stillmadeintheusa.com. Of course you can watch for ebay, cl, auctions, garage sales etc to get older but high quality stuff. The newer stuff from SO, MAC, MATCO and possibly some others are high dollar but can be made in the PRC so watch out for what you are getting.

Have you tried HD Chasen in Somerville. Haven’t been there a couple of years but they are still there and always had quality tools.

Thanks!

FWIW,
That rethreading set that Summit is selling IS the one made by Lang. They just have their own labeling on it.
If you look at the one on Amazon and the one at Summit, you can compare the 2. It even looks to be in the same blow molded container, with the black oxide parts having swapped position with the silver colored ones.

About COO information:
A COO is technically a Certificate Of Origin, (which is REQUIRED by US Customs on IMPORTED goods), although many people use it to mean Country of Origin, which is still essentially correct but using it THAT way leads to confusion about why it may be there on some products and not on other, often very similar ones.

ONLY when a product is IMPORTED, and is packaged for retail sale, is the final customer required (technically-and sometimes this is ignored) to know the Country of Origin and such information is ncluded in some manner-EITHER on the packaging or somewhere the item itself. (And there ARE specific exceptions to this requirement.) The vast majority of NON imported products do not require Country of Origin labelling to be done, although it often is done for marketing purposes, ("Made in USA" does still help sell some products) and sometimes done to meet the demands of specific entities/organizations/etc. both in the governmental sector and the civil.

Might want to look deeper into that.... Grizzly imports 90+% of their stuff from China & Taiwan... It's better quality than allot of the China stuff but it sure ain't made in USA... How they got themselves listed on a Made in USA website I have no idea but I own a few Grizzly tools & they may dance on the edge but they sure don't make much here..

This is a cut & paste from their website... Does it sound like it's made in the USA?
