Mecum

Thanks for posting all those pics.

Resto-mods are big sellers, bringing really good $$$
for quality builds

most the cars "aired" on TV, going over the block were
are not run of the mill, or shad-tree build cars
many/most are professionally restored (that ain't cheap)
but some are new/novices, 1st-time consigners
some of them do extremely nice work too
some IMO are lipstick on pigs too
($20k-$50k+ paint, all new parts or all new NOS parts etc.)
most are #1 & #2 cars, many fully restored
or low mile survivors (rare or low #'s production)

(quality builds $70,000 to $100,000+ restos LABOR, plus the value of the cars)

IMO it's still good for the hobby
it's good for the shops/builders consigners
it's good for the parts houses, restoration re-pops etc.
(some years 'for the buyers', that get storming deals too)

the auction serves its purpose & a need
(also get rich of it too 10% at 5% each on @ no reserve
to 20% at 10% each @ reserve costs, on almost every car sold
average ever 2 min.s, good gig if you got it
)
it has the facilities & (there was like 3500) cars in 1 location
for people to look, inspect & have available
& if they like, then 'spend their money' willingly
get a drink or some food while you're there
it's more of an event than just an auction

it takes usually 2 to tango,
two people that have the funds or an approved credit value
& want the car/or memorabilia really bad

I enjoy the shows, it's like a rolling car-show/Car ****
lots of cool cars to look at, many you will never see anywhere else
many 'you or I' will never ever be able to afford,
but I love seeing them anyway...

a few good deals

a few great stories

a few great charities too

a few something like 25%-30%+ that go to "the bid goes on desk"
that don't meat reserves, didn't sell, a % of them that don't sell at all

IMHFO a few overpaid too
or maybe rephrase that to, not what I'd spend for the same thing
no matter how much $$$ I had
everyone has a budget & a price, what they would spend
more power to them, if you got it

my biggest gripe
other than everything resale red &/or red interiors :poke:
is I see the same "high dollar cars"
going from auction to auction, especially at Mecum events
selling over & over again

another gripe
so damn many
70 454SS LS6 Chevelles or clones (200+ ?)
& 69 Camaros Z28 or clones (200+ ?)
so many Corvettes, (like 200+ ?) at that 1 event
they are just about to show a cool MoPar & go to commercial :BangHead:

that one triple black 1965 GS Riviera 425 was beautiful too
sold for a record price, unobtainium to me

(I actually prefer BJ better, 99% no reserve)

A lot of the cars from Thursday Friday and Saturday were from 1 collection from a guy in Indy

I watch it all the time but Dana and his Son piss me off how they hound the seller to always release their reserve and always show there displeasure when the seller doesn't and wave them off and walk away mad at the seller. Then the whole "Bid Goes On" B.S. thing pisses me off. Never get to see what something sells for.

Damn, I'm gone a few days and everyone is a bus driver.

Wayne, I meant no disrespect to your friend. Good for him if he found a car he loves.

My opinion is I think the Auction house's and tv shows have ruined a lot of the Hobby. Have they fueled it a little yes. But imo more harm than good.

I agree, It's called Hooray for Me, the Hell with You! The whole hobby is being run by people who have more money than brains!! At the end of the day normal people can't compete. The average people that own these cars have had them for years when no one wanted them, now they are sitting on a little money in a car they would never buy at the cost we are seeing. The bottom line is, it's a car, you can't take it with you.

What's with that old man sitting on the stage the whole time? Where nobody else was allowed.

honestly don't now if I will ever be able to buy a nice car again.
the GTX I had was my last chance, and had to sell it all off for personal reasons.

Every car I see listed, they want stupid money for.
and they seem to have more wrong with them than right.
was at Kissimmee this year. only car that really caught my attention was the black 69 hemi GTX.

Really gotten out of control.
maybe on 2-3 years the market will get normal again. LOL

Inflation is a bitch. Ya, give it 2-3 years. Inflation should be under control by then

There were some interesting cars (to me) that sold for less than $20k at the Glendale 2022 Mecum auction, but most of them were not Mopars. Some of these more affordable options might be an enjoyable experience for car folks.

would love to find a "fin" car from late 50's and early 60's
I think they are the coolest looking cars ever!
my only problem is my garage is about 4' to short to keep in LOL

Nothing a saw and a couple of 2x4's couldn't cure.

I bet some of these cars coming up for sale is BECAUSE of the inflated market. They may not have been for sale otherwise?

Exactly, A LOT of cars avail today are avail 100% due too the market .
Ive given though to test the market with my 66 Satellite.
But then I come to my senses and say oh hell no
