Advertising a felony on Facebook Marketplace. (Mopar VIN tag)

It's missing now, so maybe so and someone reported it?

suspicious at best

could be just collecters too, I doubt it thou

To clarify,
I dont thinks it any crime until / unless it gets re-attached to another car

it used to be a federal crime to remove Any vin tag or identification markings, off Any vehicle of any kind.

coupla months ago, same scene on fb,cept the guy had tags and title too,car was toast.
it turned into a big debate during which some retired cop showed up Bragging about how he had removed Multiple challenger vins and id markings and had them for Sale for rebodies !!....yeah.
we went back and forth, initially i tried logic, but he wasnt having any of that.
after i showed him the statutes about vins,he suddenly removed all his replies and the topic was swept under the rug.
he of course didnt get banned,or removed from the group.
that Bothered me too, because when you as an admin Cover up other peoples wrongdoings, you are Not protecting your members.
some of these people dont care about whats right or wrong, just the Cash payout.

The FB ad came right up for me just now. This is definitely not kosher. The guy is in Luthersville, GA not Lynchburg, and he has been selling off a '68 Coronet piece by piece. Methinks that might be where the '68 VIN plate is from. I did not decode the VIN tag. I gotta leave something for the FBBO sleuths.

He also has 7 alias's tied to his account, lol

Isn't it a federal crime to remove your mattress tag?

I bought some parts off a mopar guy once that had a friend "stop by" while we were haggling over some stuff. He knew what I was working on somehow and even brought a pair of new repop air grabber decals he wanted $10 for(that I did buy). After an uncomfortable Q&A session, he pulls out a ziplock bag with a fender tag, vin plate, and a title to a car he owned and crushed & asked if I wanted to buy the stuff to turn my Satellite RR clone into a true Roadrunner. There are poeple out there that would have...I'm not one of them.

Tampering with a vin (on anything, not
just cars), is illegal.
A tag can be removed for repair of a damaged
area, or in cases of repairing a damaged dash
pad, but needs to be documented. Fraudulent
intent to alter or misrepresent a vin is a no no.
I've seen show cars with pristine stamped vin
plates in place of the 50 year old ratty ones
usually stored in the glove box. There are
a few guys out there that are authorized to
restamp duplicates.
Text font, size, forward or reverse
stamping, and rivet attachment are a
manufacturers' proprietary info and
those authorities inspecting your car
can spot the fakes. Not to mention that
the vin numbers may be stamped
elsewhere in locations known only
to them. Though most of these
'secret' locations were implemented
post 1980 with the advent of the 17
digit vin number.

I went to the Mopars at Englishtown in 1988. A vendor there had about 30 dashboards with titles. All from the Muscle Car era. He had several 383 Dart and Barracuda, GTX, Charger R/T, some V codes, a ‘68 Hemi Charger, and a ‘69 M code Road Runner. Where do you think they all ended up? This was one show in one town. :)
