Well, I don't do any bodywork or paint on the exterior. I am no where good enough for that. It sure does take a lot of time though. He had 185 hours to do that on this car. He had to remove the existing paint as well, so that bumped up the hours some.

So you're saying it's not a $5000 paint job.. :lol:
 
Holy smokes, that looks gorgeous!! I'm happy you got it back home. Assembly is my favorite part.
 
Taped off the entire car and got the hood blackout taken care of. I did a better job as far as coverage than the factory haphazardly did 53 years ago.

Let the blackout paint dry for a couple of days and the taped the entire car off again to spray the Resto Rick undercoating in the front fender area. Made sure to get the antennae and e-brake cable installed 1st. Again, I put a bit more on than the factory originally did.

Then dribbled some of this stuff in the doors and quarters. Kind of a creeping grease that helps prevent rusting in areas that can't be accessed.

Very nice, but for the record, the upper radiator crossbar should not be painted black.
I've had a couple of cars that had black overspray on the front face and bottom lip of the upper crossbar, so I just painted them solid black. The top and back was left blue. Guess I probably should have left the front of it blue, but this is definitely not a concours restoration.

I did the same with the black overspray on my 70 Road Runner. but I then realized that you can't see the crossbar when the hood is closed anyway (so I guess that's why Chrysler didn't paint them). Oh well. Like your car, my car is not a concours restoration. :)

Yeah, I just realized that when looking at it this morning as well. Good enough for who it is for I guess. It works in my world. And again that ol' ******** is correct one more time :lowdown:.

Yup. And the main thing he was correct about is that your car is very nice! :thumbsup:
 
Added some grease zerts to the wiper pivots and lubed them up.

Wiper arms and insulation installed. Had a bugger of a time with those black plastic pins that hold on the firewell pad. Tried driving them home with a hammer, and then with a punch in the center hole. Ended up breaking 2 of them. Ended up greasing the tip and tapping it through the hole to the first rib. Then went on the outside and pulled them through the rest of the way with pliers. Actually went pretty well. Another member suggested heating them up in hot water first. That would have been my next step.

Joel I used the clear synthetic grease for anything in the cabin. I have found gun grease tends to "bleed/seep" and have a odor. No big deal just passing on what I found. Might not be big deal up there where it doesn't get as warm.

Probably a good idea. I didn't know there was such a thing. I use Red-n-tacky. I have never noticed it dripping, but I'm sure it could.
