Looking for opinions Good or Bad on Summit brand single stage Acrylic Urethane paint
Thank you

I used it a few years back on a car and was happy with the results. It sprayed up fine and buffed out to what I was looking for. That said, it looked like a decent single stage paint job. No complaints and I'd use it again.

I think that proper pre-painting prep an bodywork FAR EXCEEDS the value/cost of the paint you buy. Also the application technique and skill plays a big part as well.

I find people who buy "cheap" paint are usually not as practiced in either the pre-work or the actual application and can sometimes get a poor result. I have seen great results with "cheap" paint and horrible results with "expensive" paint. Its not the paint in most cases.

That being said, some cheap paints are cheap because you have to use more of it vs. the activator/reducer so in some cases you do get what you pay for, so I would look closely at coverage rates and mixing ratios.

As an alternative to Summit, look at Kirker paint kits. Very reasonably prices, high quality, and I find them to be a good value. I buy them through their distributor Dads Custom and they have always been straight shooters. Kirker Automotive Finishes | Refinish Materials | Newburgh, NY, USA and Catalog (dadscustoms.com)

Here is the Sour Apple BC/CC I just shot. (Sorry not a MOPAR, mine is in the back undergoing serious floor/roof/side repair)

Something to consider.

My biggest concern would be UV protection

I used the Summit brand last summer to paint my glass hood matt black. Hadn’t painted in over 25 years last using Centari. Used the Summit 2k primer and their recommend support products, followed directions, and I think it came out well for my first experience with a modern Urethane. Did notice it seemed to have stronger vapors and slower drying time than the old, simpler, Centari product. Seemed like good enough product for a driver quality car, and I would use it again. Also, they had what I needed in stock, and shipped it from Nev to Wash State in two days, faster than I expected. If I was doing a $2mill Hemi Cuda Conv, I would pay a professional to paint it, and trust them pick the paint they preferred.

Prep...prep and more prep. Summit paint is just fine. Single stage is a wee bit trickier than base a clear.....as I found out with the MN Gold project, but it has advantages with type of resto you are going for.

I've used the single stage black as an underbody/chassis paint, and have used it to paint small parts like wheels before. Good results overall. I will say the actual shade of black is not the deepest/blackest I have ever seen but it has worked out well for my purposes.
