1970 Super Bee

also trunk gutter #,70 is a one year only so keep that in mind. Sharp looking Bee it should also have the wood grain dash

I believe the center console should also be wood grain. Is there a fender tag? that would tell you if it had a wood steering wheel and the N96 ram charger setup . I believe 70 Bee only 383,440 6 pack or hemi no 4 barrel 440

Opinion (no facts), I never get a warm, fuzzy feeling from that outfit in Sherman, Texas. Maybe my opinion is unfounded. Check them out on the internet and Better Business Bureau.

For that price it:
Needs to be an original 4 speed car.
Needs to have a complete and matching broadcast sheet.
Needs to have the original fender plate.

...and that's just the beginning.

They need to provide you with a lot of documentation.

You need to inspect the car yourself.

That car was on eBay. It didn't sell?

Good luck.

No sale at Mecum not long ago

Looks like the fender tag is no longer present. Maybe there is a broadcast sheet? By the "stated" VIN, it is indeed a 440-6. As davek states, trunk stamp ...and also radiator support - being a '70, both should be "0A136142". Texas is a ways away from you, but for that money, you'd probably be wise to hands-on everything. Market has been strong recently, but...that strong? Not too many years back, number-matching 383 Bee's were around $30K and that one was a $50K car tops if all correct.

JMO.

Thanks a million! I knew you guys would be a good resource. I’m going to ask about the fender tag and build sheet.

Looks nice but I would definitely go look at it first. If no fender tag hopefully they have the build sheet. I assume not #'s matching, if the ad indicated it was I missed it. Also as others mentioned I'd look a the stampings to verify with VIN, etc.
It is a beautiful car.

So I was able to get some picks. Sounds like the quarters have been replaced and it’s non-numbers matching. I’m not very well versed in some of these details so any help Is greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think.

(1) Still no broadcast sheet? It contains a wealth of information not contained on the fender tag.

(2) The VIN plate on the dash looks like it has been poorly painted gloss black and the Chrysler logo and text was masked off...you can see the matte black finish. The "restoration shop" is a hack.

(3) Respectable shops will have binders full of photographs showing the restoration work. Do they have that?

No. They claim no broadcast sheet or build documents. Appreciate the insight. This may have to be a pass.

...no broadcast sheet or build documents.

Not too surprising, really. I'm guessing there was no interior when they found it. It is a very nice car, but the price is really high (IMO) for what it is: I'd surmise they found a V-code shell (at least, the front 1/2) with dash (and I presume, title?), and built from there using "pretty much right" parts. Engine and trans are "about" the right age, although both were built a month or two after this car rolled off the line. Console is a '68 I think. Gauge cluster is probably from a Roadrunner. Regardless of originality, it is a pretty rare car... I'd think it would be a nice driver in somewhere around the low $40Ks? I don't know the exact number, but it would be somewhere around 1 of 500 6-Pack Auto '70 Bees.

Just my opinion - with which (plus 50cents), you can get a half-dollar's worth of 'something'....

Appreciate the feedback. It’s sounding more like an overpriced parts car. I may have to consider something else.

I don't understand why they didn't let it go at Mecum at a $70K bid, ...just to then try to sell it later for ~$67K? Maybe I'm reading something wrong....

The vin tag rivets shouldn't be painted either.

My guess is the fees, 6% plus shipping and your looking at $8K easily. So sell it for $67K and he's making more than he would at $70K.
