Frustration

I am wanting to vent and possibly talked off the ledge. I recently installed a cam and lifters in my 1967 Belvedere II. Bought the Jegs version of the air gap manifold. Get everything ready, painted and go to install. The holes don’t line up. Tried everything, can’t get them to go.

This project has been fighting me the whole way. I am pretty close to calling it a day and selling it. I am super frustrated.

....my friend. I was so pissed at the 67 Coronet a few months back, I was going to turn it into yard art. Cranky talked me off the ledge. Always back away, take 30 and come back with a critical eye. Alignment issues with parts have three outcomes; Correct and wrong and defective. Lets isolate and measure.
 
Probably should add that if the deck and/or heads have been cut, then the intake needs to get cut as well. There is always a solution to a problem, many times we don't like the solution/s but careful analysis and review will help to select an appropriate course of action.

I will say up front that throughout my hot rodding teen years and even nowadays there are times when I am convinced that cars/machines are conspiring against me, will not cooperate and generally do not want to work; almost like they are living things with free will. Of course I know this not to be true and too often it is very easy to become disheartened, upset and generally pissed off when things do not go as planned. At least for me, I have to in many cases walk away (as suggested), think things through and reapproach with a different attitude. Believe it or not, attitude and patience plays huge roles in how a project comes together, luck has little to do with it.
 
I have to agree with RussT Plymouths. I went through the same with a Speedmaster Air Gap (Jegs/Summit)
I bought it from a member on A bodies that "Fitted but Not Used" Now I know why.
They are not a bargain. I looked it up and it sounds like you get a 50/50 chance of getting a good one.
Vacuum leaks + holes not aligning problems. Pulled it Bought a Edelbrock Performer.

Much more gooder. I went for the Speedmaster because I like a square flange carb mount.
That is my only dislike about Edelbrock. I could have bought a RPM but the engine was stock and the RPM type wasn't really what I was after.
Being on a budget and I'm cheap,I went for a bargain and got bit in the ***.
 
"Man built it, so man can fix it", is what I always tell myself. There is always a solution. Don't give up.
I'd say that the heads probably have been milled, might have to have the intake milled as well.
 
It really is not that big a deal if the intake has to be milled to fit. I would speak with your local machinist about it and see what he thinks needs to be done.
I know it is not something you were expecting but remember your are dealing with a 50+ year old motor so you just never know what has been done to it in the past.
Believe me like everybody here has at one point threw up our hands and screamed why me ?
I have to walk away from things from time to time to regroup.

Do you have another intake that does fit the engine properly right now?
 
Verify that the 318 you have is a LA motor. I believe 67 was when they changed from the "poly" motor. You can tell the difference by the valve covers. They are both 318's but different.

And make sure it's a 318. Look at the cast in numbers on the side of the block to make sure it says 318 and not 273. If it is 273 tell us what size intake bolts it uses. (just in case someone didn't install a 64 or 65 273 between the rails)

He has the original 2bbl intake he took off to put on the new 4bbl on post # 18 and I am assuming it’s an LA motor because Jegs does not sell a poly intake.

Yep, the title of this thread says it all. Frustration! I'm out.
 
If you posted just to blow off steam, I understand. If you want help, you'll need to give a LOT more information.
One idea...
If the engine is an early 273, they used a unique bolt pattern and angle to the heads and intake. They are not like the 1966 and later engines from what I recall.

Years ago, I had a '67 Belevedere II with the first generation LA 318 engine, which I installed the 273 cubic inch engine parts from a '65 Barracuda Formula S: intake manifold, carb, cam, lifters, rocker arms, etc using the existing 318 heads, the Prestolite dual point distributor. The manifold was the single plane cast iron Mopar. The problem I encountered was the angle of bolt holes of the earlier manifold did not exactly match the bolt hole center line of the head, but the bolt diameter was the same. My fix was to ELONGATE (top to bottom dimension) the manifold bolt holes, using a Dremel tool with a burr grinder to allow the bolts to engage with the head. I used a second flat washer under the bolt head, but a better choice would have been a construction washer (bevel type washer) to allow for a more even clamping squeeze. I used the steel shim gaskets on the sides and foam type gaskets for the end gaskets, coated with Permatex spray on HiTac and an RTV Permatex black on the corners. But if your engine is not the LA engine.....perhaps a similar approach may be a solutions.....pixs would help.....

B3vedere267 .... ahhhhh jumping off the cliff !!!!! Remember that we are all working on OLD vehicles that have been worked on by any number of qualified or non-qualified people and using who knows what for NOS , REPOP , junkyard etc for parts . I had 3 hours of trying to install this new console lid on my '66 Sat .... then I looked at it and realized that the manufacturer had installed the hinge spring on reversed .. snip snip on the spring ends and presto fitt-o in 5 minutes . Best thing to do when getting tooooooo stressed , turn on the big screen in your shop , you tube - Rockmina Zeppelin Rock and Roll - turn it up to 11 , turn off the lights and have a sip of Tekillya and if that doesn't work wellllll ... thats what the rest of the bottle is for !!!!!!!!! Oh yea nice '67

Wanna trade for a 67 Coronet? Im in the same boat as you! The next part I have to buy is a for sale sign!!!
