I’m converting my 65 Belvedere, 3 on the column, bench seat to a 4 speed. I have a 69 A833 trans and the attached pic of the shifter. I’ve seen different shaped handles, etc. and not familiar with what I will need. What shifter handle do I need that will fit this shifter and won’t hit the dash?
And if I decide to install an under dash aftermarket AC unit, will that cause additional interference probs?

Be careful. I installed a 383 and a 4 speed in my '64 Dodge almost 50 years ago. What I remember is that the 2nd to 3rd shift was a knuckle buster! Right up against the ash tray!

Yep, especially if you don't have the stops adjusted correctly on the shifter.
Get some cool knuckle scars that way.

When did the stops appear? Both of my ‘70 V code cars don’t have em. And they are both the slide in handle.

64 and 65 B-bodies had Competition Plus shifters in them from the factory. I’m not aware of any other years that used them.

My 64 dodge was a knuckle buster until i learned about the stops. But that got me into more trouble so not sure was better.

I have a 1965 Coronet , used a Hurst push down shifter with the rear location bracket . You can still find then on ebay . Used a 7 inch handle for a mustang and this places the shifter up close and near my bench seat . Took off the straight stick . First pic is with the straight stick then next is in first gear and the third is in second no leaning over and sit you will sit back in the seat. Hope this helps John

My '64 Polara is a factory 4 speed and originally came with a bench seat. This is the stock factory Hurst shifter that came in the car.

The shifter in my 65 is a push down hurst . You put the shifter in neutral and push down on the stick and pull it over to the left and it will go into reverse , pull it back and it will pop up into neutral, pull it to the left and push it into first gear , when going into second gear keep pulling it toward you and to the left , the gate is spring loaded when going into third just push shifter forward and spring in the gate will move the stick to the third gear slot . pulling back will get you forth gear . using the Hurst bracket will move the shifter up and back away from the dash keeping your nuckles safe . Found the bracket in Hopemills Sc. FYI
