So this happened.... These cars dont have much weight in the ***

I used to drive a semi tanker delivering petroleum products and chemicals back in the mid 70's.
One night, ( My shift started at 5pm) I got loaded up and drove east into Indiana to make my delivery.
It started snowing and by the time I got to my drop, there was a full fledged blizzard going on. When
I was done and empty, the guy signing my paperwork told me that the State Police just closed down
80. I called my dispatcher and told him what had happened and he said, "You lucky Devil". You're going
to be on the clock until you get back here to the terminal! Oh well, I got something to eat and took a
long nap in my truck. Nice and warm. Now, many years later when I see jackknifed semi's and cars in
the ditch when there's a blizzard going on I have to wonder, why? Where the hell do you have to go
in the middle of a snowstorm that's so important? And to see that Charger almost in the ditch makes
me cringe.
 
If you ain't got chains on it AND you ain't gotta be out there - then why?
 
I easily remember when a ride just like this was the only way I had to get around. I still had to work so I can see it if that’s his only ride.
 
That looks pretty minor. I remember when Dad was driving his new 73SE out of the bush after working in camp all week. Missed a corner on the logging road and ended up sitting on top of the snowbank about 6 feet in the air. No damage but it shows these were just transportation devices to start with.
 
Looks like he didn’t hit anything so hopefully a lesson learned.
I worked my framing business out of my 66 Barracuda but that was 30 years ago but if it is your main mode of transportation I still get it.
 
Yeah, I guess my perspective is a little different.. I use to daily drive these cars & still do sometimes when the weather is good.. But fortunately I don't need to anymore & if the road is covered in slick white crap I'd rather risk damaging something thats of less interest to me..

Glad no real damage was done & hope ya took advantage of the educational part...
 
Its my daily lol I got goofy around the corner. Not my first time in the ditch with her either so I carry some tow straps
 
50 years ago I did a 180 on the ice with my '64 Fury wagon. She just leaned up against the curb, no damage, and went around 180 again! And I drove her home.
 
You just need to go out and do some practicing, so you know how, when and where to giver some throttle. Gotta remember that most of us old buggers drove these things daily in the Winter, the Bee took us to the ski hills every week before the roads were even plowed....

 
Yep, just regular cars back then that we drove in all kinds of weather. First photo shows what happened during the winter in late 1972 or early 1973. Note the snow in background. Kid backing out of the driveway at night on a slick road and couldn't stop. It actually pushed the fender right into the tire. He came to the door and owned up to it. Ended up replacing the inner fender several years later with an NOS inner fender as it was tweaked about 1/4". Second photo shows me driving the Challenger in the Washington Cascade mountains in early 1975. Road was only a little slick then.

There's no reason not to get an 2006 Hyundai POS to get to work in the Winter.
 
I like that he's actually driving his car as a daily, as it was built for. Good for you Tylor. I'm currently fixing up an old 71 Charger SE and fully intend to drive her daily, rain or shine or snow. My Coronet and GTX have never seen rain, snow or even cold so I'm excited to have an unrestored muscle car to just drive and enjoy on a daily basis.
 
Nothing for ice traction, PERIOD: we DID have snow tires & chains back in the day, some of us :)D) kept snow tires on all year because of low finances, hs & enlisted military, THEN the state, NEW JERSEY, of course, put regulation dates on running snow tires. No damage on your Charger a good thing.
