Something strange

How hard were you on the brakes? I've lost oil pressure after a WOT run when I got on the brakes hard....

WOT pumps allot of oil out of the pan then you jump on the brakes & what oil is still in the pan sloshes forward & the pickup sucks air... Oil pressure drops to zero & takes a few seconds to recover...
Hmmm I was on em pretty hard that might be a possibility.

If you drive like Mario Andretti you need to look into a baffled oil pan.... :poke:

It doesn't handle that good lol

Well we can come up with a parts list for that too.... We have a whole crew here dedicated to spending other peoples money.... Wait, I just described the government....

You uncovered the oil pump pickup, next time, don't slide into home plate so fast...

Milodon makes the hex still and please replace the pump its really a low cost item compared to catastrophic engine failure. Also check the back of engine to see if any plugs are loose. Look for leaks.

Yea already checked for leaks found none, the pump that's on it is a melling it is supposed to be designed to keep pressure up at low RPM it failed

Is this a stock 5qt pan? Might be a good time to put in a new pan and pick up. I have the 7qt milodon with the larger diameter (hemi) pick up but have been eyeing the road racing version with the kickouts so you don't have to worry about ground clearance.

It's a aftermarket pan from 440 source. It's about 1/2 to 3/4 deeper thank a stock pan.

If you didn't install a longer pickup tube there is yer problem. Or, if you didnt, you need to add oil so the pickup is still in the oil.

I think until you are making extreme changes in speed or had turns
there would be plenty of oil for normal driving UNLESS you were filming
Dukes of Hazard - given Pan is to full mark on stick and correct stick.

.......................

That being said, Losing Oil Pressure is a serious deal to your lower end
and to be avoided. I run the 7 Quart pan on several of my cars even my
A body which in fairly low and have never had a problem scraping.
Of Course = I am old and do not drive like you Hazard County boys!

Update: since I have the time I got the serpentine system installed with a new radiator w/dual fans. Went to test everything had plenty of oil pressure then engine overheated due to a faulty thermostat. Changed thermostat retested now no oil pressure. Replaced oil pump with a new part still no pressure. Removed oil pan nothing g foreign in oil. I'm perplexed. HELP.Please

Inspect the pickup tube and fluid path to the pump.. Anyplace it can suck air instead of oil, IE pickup tube not sealing to the threads in the block, missing gasket between the pump & block, Oil pickup tube screwed so tightly into block that the boss on the block cracked....

You previously lost pressure when the pump lost prime, there's a reason it's loosing prime, probably sucking air...

Thank you sir, I will be on that tomorrow.

Happy to help! hopefully you get it sorted out... I like working on stuff but only for a little while, much more fun to be out driving....
