Hi everyone,

Will, new member here and I want to show you my car, a 1968 GTX super track pak.
Although this term appeared in 1969, she has the same options ( factory options ) :

- 4 speed
- 3.54 Dana 60 sure grip rear end
- 26'' radiator
- front disc brakes AND power brakes ( for super.. track pak)

in rare combo red on red ( red matador red interior with burgundy metallic upper door)

many others options like full mouldings: body belt, drip rail, wide sill, wheel lip.
tach, passenger mirror, rear seat speakers.

everything is correct and conforms to the trim tag except the stripes, originally black BUT in white it's ok for me.

I am obsessed with the original and correct, and I have learned a lot from the books of david wise, especially . but I’m missing information and I’d like to know more about the engine. According to me the engine and the gearbox are not original, the engine is from 1969 and not HP
but the car was assembled on December 27, 1968, maybe have parts from 1969?

I also did not find the production number of 68 GTX in 4 speed, track pak or super TP.

I need expert mopar if you can teach me something, in any case here are photos, enjoy.

Welcome aboard and thank you for joining the forum!
Very nice and very rare car!
Congratulations, beautiful!

Welcome to the site. If your car has a Dec. 27 scheduled production date, it would be 1967 not 1968. They were well into the 69 model year by Dec. 68.IF that is an E on your 440 then the engine was built 10 months after your car's S.P.D.

The car looks great

The car was not assembled on 12-27-68. They were building 1969 cars on that day. It was 12-27-1967

There was no super track pack for 1968 cars. That term started for 1969 4.10 Dana 4 speed cars and disc brakes were included.

The only DANA for 1966-1968 production cars was the 3.54 on 440 and hemi engines with 4 speed. Also the disc brakes were a separate option from the Dana.

The 1969 engine will have at least a partial VIN or full VIN on the passenger side above the oil pan rail behind the engine mount. 8 digits. This tells you what car it came from.

Very Nice car,
Would you be willing to show us the fender tag.

thank you for your answers, so this is one of the first 68, indeed the term did not exist yet.

They model year production usually started around August 1st and ran to early or mid July, depending on the year and the plant. Most of the cars in the late 60’s were built in September through December. Just look at the SPD on fender tags of cars you see online.

I dont think of a December car as early.

R413 is correct,
October is a Early Car
September the earliest?
Can differ.

But hey, Nice Car huh?

Yeah really nice !

Ok, I am better informed about the production date, how much 4 speed this year? better yet, how much 4 speed with dana 60? It would be amazing to know that.

Every 426 Hemi and 440 4 speed B-body car came with a Dana 60. 1966-1971

68 GTX HT 440 4 speed: 9771
68 GTX hardtop 440 AT: 6902

this numbers info from a 22 year old GTS book

nice looking GTX.

If it was assembled in december 1967 it shouldn't have the Hurstshifter. It came later in the modelyear to substitute the t-handle shifter.

It is on 15 road wheels which were not available on Mopars. They only came in 14" originally.

thanks Carsten, you're right

I would add that the gear knob, if hurst, was white.

My December built 68 Charger has the Inland shifter. I had an early March built 68 Charger & that came with the Hurst shifter. The early Hurst shifters had "stick" script and the later ones had outlined HURST script. Don't know when they made the change from Inland to Hurst, but Hurst equipped cars would have a reverse light under the dash & Inland equipped cars would not.
